Karma...it's a B*@$ch

This has been the worst 3 hours of my post-op life thus far, and I am kicking myself for the stupidity of my old habits that led me to pain and suffering this evening. Stupid-Stupid-Stupid.

I am going to rationalize my error in judgment for just for a minute (just to make myself feel even a tiny bit better). This evening, I took my daughter with me and ran 8k while she biked along side me. Then I walked over to the pool and swam lengths for an hour. I was feeling in a great mood and happy with myself for all of the hard work I had done. On the way home, I ran over to Timmies to grab a coffee for my hubby and an iced coffee for myself. Here lies the error in thinking.....in a spontaneous, last minute decision, I heard myself declare "...and two chocolate Timbits, please". WELL, I don't suppose I chewed those damn little things very well, in fact I am pretty sure I inhaled them and skipped the chewing all together. Surprise!! They became stuck like glue in my stoma, and WOULD NOT BUDGE. I sat in agony just imagining those doughy little devils packed into my esophagus, refusing to budge. Do you know how long it takes to puke up 2 chocolate Timbits from Tim Hortons? I do. It takes three gawd awful hours of nausea and pain!

Learn from my stupidity ...that's the lesson to be had. Tomorrow I will pick myself up, dust myself off and adopt a new mantra for the day: "Food is NOT a reward...Food IS NOT a reward!!!" On the upside...I think any affection that I once had for Timbits is now officially resolved. BLECH!

Oh Marny.  Thanks for the heads up!  I have not yet done this and your post has me convinced that it is definitely not a good idea.  Thanks for being courageous enough to share.

Judy

p.s.  great exercise!

CHEW...chewing is good.  Swallowing your treats whole is definitely a bad idea.  Glad I could test this premise for you.  We now have concrete evidence...it's bad.  Oh...sooooo bad!  haha

I can relate. Supper time is the hardest time to eat for me. I get home from work or work-out tired and old my habit is to eat a large meal and relax.

I tend to eat too quickly and not pay attention. Then I might as well not eat at all because it does not stay long.

Lesson learned.

Yup.  I have never really picked up the eating slowly thing.  I actively have to remind myself to put the fork down inbetween bites.

I know what you mean about the post-work/ post workout need to feed.  It's such a hard habit to break.  How ludicrous is it to think to one self.  "I just did a whole bunch of healthy exercise.  Yay for me.  Now lets celebrate with junk food"  ???

Nice thing about us humans is we make a mistakes and then learn from it. Don;t beat yourself up.   I am surprised that it had quite that effect and so sorry you had to experience it. If you are so inclined again, slow is the very way to go, as I hope on the odd time you can enjoy one. I have experienced that feeling several times when I ate the right food just fast, I am learning, after 4 months, got to eat slow

Who knew??  Two ity bity little timbits.  I think what happened was that they were so soft and doughy, and then I snarfed them down so quickly, that they just packed together tightly and then would NOT go down.  Little jerks.  :P
