Culd this really have happened again? Coincidence or not?

So, you may remember about 2 weeks ago, I posted about getting some food stuck and having hours of pain and heaving.  I mentioned that I had run 5k, swam laps for an hour, and then had this horrible experience.  At the time, I thought it was the nature of the food (2 timbits), and the speed at which I ate them.

Flashforward to this evening.  Low and behold, I went out for a run (5k), and was feeling so good afterwards, that I went over to the pool and swam for an hour.  When I got home, I ate at the very most, 1/4 cup of hummus, and 4-5 naan crisps (These are little triangle pieces of naan, similar in size as a Triscuit,  that have been baked.  They are cracker-like; very thin, and dry.  I have never had trouble with crackers before.)  I did not rush.  I was reading, had my portion set out, and nibbled slowly.  WELL- same outcome as last time.  Heaving for about 2 hours, pain in my tummy, nausea, and then huge vomitting (prob. everything I ate), and a feeling like a charlie horse in my gut.

WTF??  Do you think these two experiences are related or is it just coincidence?  Is this some lethal combination of exercise?  Am I doing some sort of damage?  I have an appointment with my clinic next week, so I will discuss it with them at that time, for sure.  Just wanted to know if anyone had any input.  I can honestly say that I was eating properly tonight- no reason to have food get stuck, so I am confused...and exhausted from heaving all night long.  BLECH!

Could it have anything to do with the fact that you are feeding yourself carbs after such vigorous workouts? I have always heard that many consume a carb heavy snack before working out, and then follow up with a protein afterwards. Try reversing your process and see what happens.

Exactly. Marny try drinking your carbs and protein after a work out. I find my pouch very sensitive after my work outs.

I believe when we draw the moisture and nutrients out of the pouch and digestive system during a work out it becomes very sensitive to solid foods.

Just a thought.

Hmmm....never thought about it.  I've never had a problem with it before.  I run a lot.  After my half marathon, I loaded up on carbs and protein together (well as much as a RNYer can load up on anything), and was fine.  I have done this many times as I find my body really craves atleast some carb after a workout.  Probably because I don't eat a ton of it on a regular basis, and so after vigourous exercise itis the quickest source of energy.

Maybe I will avoid it next time and stick only to protein.

SORRY. MEANT TO RELY TO ND2BTHN WITH THIS ONE :)

Most runners load up before and after running. Carb city! That's why you see marathon runners and they are still a bit thick, or not as lean as you would expect them to be. They run 42k but eat pasta for days before and after an event. Ha!

Maybe you're right, but It has never affected me before. I always have a mix of carb and protein, after a workout. I need the energy. When I am on a full exercise schedule, I need to have more carb than normal, it's more than just a craving, it's a need. Last night however, the scale leaned more on the carb side, so who knows?

Thanks for the input!

For me, I do not vomit frequently either.  Once a month or two.  It seems to me that there always doesn't have to be a reason.  It can happen after I eat good protein, in small amounts or after I indulged in something I shouldn't or ate a little too much.  Sometimes the pouch just seems to be having an "off" day.  Cant say I have noticed an excercise relationship yet.  I hope your clinic can give you more clarity.

You're right....there doesn't need to be a reason.  Some days I feel like I can "feed the tank" forever, but it never feels full or satisfied.  Other days I have a bite or two of something and then I am stuffed.  Who knows?  It's more than likely just a fluke, but both experiences were very memorable, and it just struck me as odd that it happened after 2 identical workouts.  I haven't had food stuck like that since VERY early post op when first learning to eat solids again.  I don't like it.....AT ALL.   So hopefully it doesn't happen anytime soon.  What a miserable feeling it is.    Ugh.
