Tips for the Morning After?

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with the morning after a night of insomnia?  Unfortunately, having a nap this afternoon isn't possible.

I fell asleep by 9:30 last night, but was up from before 11:30 to after 2:30 then up at 5:30.  I'm functioning, but really tired.  And I know that by this afternoon I'll be suffering from headaches and their side effects because of this.

How does everyone else deal with working after a bad night's sleep.  I used to just keep eating to stay awake, but that's not something I'd like to start again.

Hi there

Drink extra water, that may help. Sorry, no other advice. I can't function without sleep. Luckily I sleep well always LOL

Take care

Welcome to my world.  Sucks, doesn't it.  I find that if I stay focused, take short breathers outside, and make sure I'm eating well (and drinking my coffee well lol) I'm okay.  But I'm very used to this - your mileage may vary.

I can so relate. One of my eating triggers is being tired.

Plan small meals .. low carb, high protien - don't go too long between meals so plan snacks between meals if at all possible. Have veggies to nosh on if you absolutely need to eat between planned meals/snacks. Cucumber or baby carrots something like that....

Keep something to drink on hand and sip sip sip each time you want to eat.

Other than that you just tough it out. Been there, done that, will do it again I'm sure.. frustrating as all get out .....but unlike prior to surgery at least now I recognize the eating trigger and have found that has made a huge difference  as well as adjusting my meals to fit what i know is going to be a day filled with a constant urge to eat.

Sometimes the best support  you can get isn't all purple puddles and pink rainbows.

I was going to say Coffee as well.. you are far enough out that a couple cups of coffee (or a red bull, it gives you wings!) will do less harm then good!

I was going to say "say thank you and ask them if they still respect you", then I read the body of your post!  Hehe, ignore me, I'm in a mood!  This is coming from someone happily married for almost 28 years!

I tend to overeat to compensate when I'm tired too, but try to go into high caffeine mode instead.

Thanks everyone!  I knew I'd get the best advice from those who go through this.  So far I'm doing alright, still going between being awake and dragging but I'm still here.  Had to go at lunch to get something to eat, and that did help.  Did find out that the Basha Premium Hummus (Roasted Garlic & Chive) may be a bit fatty for my tummy on a tired day.  Tasted good, but the extra oil they use to make it thinner caused a bit of reaction.  Should have looked first.  Learned the hard way.

Will try a little caffeine next time though, had a decaf from Tim's and my instant at work is Decaf.

I'll agree with Joyce. Try drinking a lot of water, i find that dehyrdration drags me out too.

go for a swim, or exercise somehow if you can, i'm much more energized if i can get out for a run or a walk.

and go to bed early.

I take melatonin to help me sleep. My problem with insomnia is usually falling asleep, my brain starts going and going and wont stop, the melatonin just kind of quiets my thinking.
