Shopping for two different menus...

Have the grandkids over most of the summer.

They don't eat fruit, yogurt, vegetables or anything remotely healthy. Bread with seeds in it...what the F is that?........Raised on crap.

So at costco. I had to buy burgers, hot dogs, chicken crap patties, cookies, frozen icecream desserts and juice.

Then I shopped for my wife and myself, buying the stuff kids should be eating.

Frustrating but a battle I can't win.

Tis the world eh?   Everything is fast food, not that an apple isn't, but if it's coated in sugar, so much better lol.   This is your chance to change your progeny.   You can introduce them to more natural choices.   Otherwise.. you know the outcome personally.

I know I am a hard ass but I will not shop for many different taste buds.. this is dinner eat it or go hungry... they will cave eventually and may actually thank you for it later

we have fresh fruits and veggies and cheeses and bread with seeds in it... you would be surprised what happens when you take that yucky bread with seeds in it and flatten it with a rolling pin and take the crusts off and slice chicken breast and roll it place a fun tooth pick in it to hold it rolled... and take tuna sandwiches and cut them with a cookie cutter into shapes (i do the same with watermelon)

have fun with food make it look fun and place it on the table and dont say a word. curiosity will get to them

I will also spread avocado on the flattened bread and shred carrots and quarter a cucumber and roll it

peanut butter and banana

I have a ton of ideas and kids who eat everything under the sun

Jason...I "like" what Dee and Bonnie said....You haven't said how old these grand kids are...if they're school age...they should know when they come to Grandma and Grandpas' house you eat differently....I wouldn't have bot all of the above, maybe just a couple of things for a "special" treat....they'll eat when they're hungry....good luck...on the battle!!  Patti K.

No better time to introduce better eating habits! I thought I'd have that battle with my son, but he eats what we eat now with no problems. Like my parents use to say to me... "Eat that or eat nothing." When we got hungry enough we ate what was presented to us. Good luck!

You know Jason, my 2 sons are at my parents for the summer.

My mom keeps calling me in despair because she says she has to buy unhealthy food or they wont eat.  She is wondering what I feed them.

Kids are so smart.  There is NO junk food accessible to my kids in my house, unless on some special occasion.

But they are controlling their grand parents BIG time!

After a good talk with my mom and dad, they stopped buying the junk, and my kids eat what is on the table.  The protested a couple of meals, but they got it pretty quickly that grandma and grandpa were not fools!

And if, in your particular case, they do eat crap at home, then I agree with the others that you shouldn't buy crap in YOUR house.  They will eat when they see that it's all there is!

Spoil them, but not with food!

Karine.

I totally agree with all the above.....yet an 8 and 12 year old raised on sugar is something that starts in the home.

Of course we always have the healthy options, but they don't eat them.

I asked Mom to bring food so we could see what they normally eat..........dingdongs, kraft dinner and goldfish crackers.............laughed my ass off.....seriously.

The funny thing is, these kids are always sick with health issues. Not over weight but definately lacking nutrients to keep them healthy.

We have always eaten healthy at our house. My problem was the volume of food, not the food.

As Bill Murray once said.....Baby steps, baby steps

I wouldn't be buying them crap just because that is what they get at home. I have 2 nieces that were pretty much raised to get whatever they want and it didn't involve anything healthy but when they would stay at my house, they ate what was put in front of them or they didn't eat. They both said they hated salad but had never really tried it and after spending every weekend at my house, they both ended up loving it and asking their mom to make it for them at home. Why continue to enable their bad eating habits? If you have them most of the summer, you have plenty of time to introduce new foods and they may go home no longer wanting the crap. Let them eat crap at home if that is what mom wants but at your place it's your house your rules so to hell with what they want. They will eat when hungry enough. I'm sorry but I would not be giving in to the demands of kids that age.

I like that option......starve them into submission.

I'll let you know how that works out............
