A bit late - Surgiversary with Pics!
You are definately an inspiration for me. I have surgery scheduled with Dr. Hagen on Oct. 9 this year. My personal goal weight would be 150lbs. I am 5'8 and my start is right in line with yours. What part of the journey did you find to be the hardest. Right now in the couples months leading up to starting Opti I am constantly struggling with well maybe I should enjoy certain foods while I can. I have been reasonably good about it and I know that once this whole process starts and I have gone to purchase my Opti on Sept. 11 I will be in the "zone". I want this more then I have wanted almost anything in my life. I cant wait to have my life back and to be able to enjoy the things I just am not able to right now. I have a 2 year and all he wants to do is run and jump and climb and crawl. Mommy just cant always do those things right now...Give me untli next summer and watch out. You wont be able to stop me! :)
Thank you so much for sharing it truely means a lot. The pictures are amazing as well. Congrats to you on your success.
Sincerely,
kkcpgp

Hi kkcpgp,
Thanks for your reply! Best of luck with your surgery, I've only heard good things about Dr. Hagen! You'll be playing with your 2 year old in no time!
That's pretty freaky about starting weight and goal, I'm also 5'8" and figured 150 is right in the middle of a normal bmi so it's as good a goal as any, plus I figure it provides some wiggle room for bounce back (but I'm going to be doing my best to avoid that). I also had the food funerals, but I realize post surgery that pretty well everything I loved before surgery I can have, I just can't have it made with the same ingredients, or at a restaurant for example because I have less control with how it's made. I make healthier swaps in my recipes to reduce the fat and carbs as per the clinic's guidelines and find that I am satisfied with the smaller amounts. Plus, certain things just taste totally different now. I find that I really notice the taste of really fatty or greasy foods. They are unpleasant now so I don't miss them and I prefer my protein and veggies.
I found early out the hardest. I don't know if I misunderstood or it was miscommunicated with me, but I was told to drink an ounce every fifteen minutes on discharge from the hospital. I realized quickly without the IV fluids I was getting in the hospital, this wasn't enough to stay hydrated properly, but by that time I was dehydrated and need to go back to the ER for IV fluids. Additionally, I was forcing myself to eat for at least the first few weeks, maybe more. I was fortunate to have Mom reminding me of when to eat and drink or else I don't think it would have happened. I suppose I was still swollen and healing but just felt full all the time.
