Revision from RNY

With all the complications I've been reading here and on the main forums over the past few days I'm getting worried about the RNY that I might be getting this October.  I wanted the VSG but my surgeon said absolutely not because of leaking and healing risks...but on the VSG forum they sure seem to have less complications than RNY...and almost as good weight loss results.  Do I have the right in Canada to insist on a VSG instead?

Hi Adman

You have to understand the law of averages....

The number of surgeries performed by type divided by the number of complications

More RNY performed.....therefore you will read of more complications

Its like comparing recalls on a vehicle....you have to see how many were sold to properly compare....you may read of more recalls on a Honda Civic....then on a Kia Soul.....but the Civic is the number one compact seller VS the Kia which is way down the list.....make sense???

Revision just means surgery on a previous surgical site, to correct some element of the previous surgery.

I don't know why you have the "ulcer". In the old days they used to surgically remove ulcers and sew the stomach up around them.

Maybe you have a non healing part of your stomach and they want to trim it away for a clean scar. I'm just speculating, you have the right to ask your surgeon exactly what he's thinking of doing, it is your body !
