I'm baaaackkkkk.......

First, I want to thank all of you SO MUCH for your warm thoughts, prayers and best wishes.  I am truly overwhelmed reading all of your posts and I'm sitting here weeping like a gd baby. Thank you.  Y'all are the best group of friends I've ever had.

Monica, thank you so much for letting my mom contact you - she had your number from when I was supposed to have my hysto, knew she should call someone from OH and called you. lol  Thank you for "putting up" with us all week. xo

Bad turned to worse to brutal on Wednesday night and I ended up in emerg at midnight. I sat there, getting sicker and sicker as the hours passed - 8 of them to be exact. The best part was when I started puking buckets of swamp green stuff.  And I do mean buckets.  No little vomit tray for this gal. When I was finally seen, I had an X-ray, CT scan etc and they confirmed I had a bowel obstruction.  My intestine had kinked and twisted and there was no way anything was leaving my body.  Well, other than the technicolour vomit, that is.  Terrible pain, thank God for morphine.  They admitted me, kept me doped up, and decided it would be prudent to do the NG thing first. Fun WOW.

I swear to God, that tube was the size of a garden hose. There was no way it was going down. After 5 tries, a huge bloody nose mess and me in tears, they decided to try a smaller tube. Genious, it worked!  That has to be the grossest, most awful experience ever, not gonna lie.

So, for a few days they kept waiting for it it work.  And wonders of wonders, it finally did.  I now remember what it was like to be on clears, full fluids, and hoping to move onto soft foods. lol  I have to eat a very low fibre diet for the next month.  The Dr. told me to eat white bread and eat some pasta.  WTF?!  I haven't eaten like that in 6.5 years. We'll see how well that goes. Tonight for dinner - a couple spoonfuls of Kraft Dinner! hahaha Give me strength.

Anyway.  Enough of the gory details.  Here's hoping this NEVER happens again. I had the WORST care and experience EVER in a hospital.  I'm disgusted.  And angry.  And happy to be alive and home.

No surgery, the NG tube therapy pulled through for me.

By the way, "Darling" is my new favourite word.  I had quite possibly the best roommate ever. She is 96, smart as a whip and the goddamned nicest woman I have ever met.  Her daughter equals her.  I sat and listened to them talk to each other all week and am so inspired by what love, tenderness and respect there is between these two women.  I will never, ever forget them.

Anyway, Helen started calling me darling, as she called her daughter. lol  It made my day.

OMG Karen....what a horrible ordeal!!!!

We were ALL so very worried and missed you terribly.  So, in your Memoirs, what will THIS chapter be called???  I just know you're gonna write a book one day!!!  LOL  Glad the worst is over and that you are back home.

Needless to say......guess u haven't had a "smoke" recently?...or, were u trying to puff on that NG tube????

As for the kraft dinner... YOU GO THIS!! LOL

Glad to see you are home and things are better.  I remember that green **** when my mom had a bowel obstruction.  The color and smell are something you won't ever forget and to think that is better than the NG tube.  I totally agree with you that an NG tube done while you are awake is the WORST experience ever.  I pulled mine out when they tried to put it down then had to do it all over again.  LOL

Stick to the low fibre diet and take it easy.  That is exactly what my mom did and she hasn't had another occurence since.  Take care Karen and rest.

Oh god Tracey, the look, the smell, the taste - I could puke right now just thinking about it. Grossest. thing. ever.
