FYI: Surviiving the forum

Just an FYI from someone who has been here for quite some time.

If someone is REALLY pushing your buttons and ******g you off, BLOCK them. Seriously. Up until a couple of years ago, I never blocked anyone. Then, for a long time, one person who was extremely unpleasant and personal with me was blocked. That person is unblocked now, can't be bothered. Live and let live.

FYI - if you block the group owners of a group that you enjoy (ohh... I dunno, like recipes or something), chances are you won't be able to read anything there anymore, since WE started all of the posts. And sadly, if you're offensive enough to GET blocked by us..... well, that's pretty much unheard of but hey, **** happens if you're ****ty.

Just sayin'.

Have a wonderful evening. :)

ETA: Oh, and if spelling bugs the **** out of you, please ignore my subject line - OH won't let me correct it. HAHAHAHA

Ditto!
You're right as usually. Blocking buggers saves a lot of nerves.
Another thought - it's OK to take a break. If the forum life overwhelms you  - don't burn bridges, don't post "good bye cruel forum" and deactivate your account. Take a break, live your life and come back when you're ready.

Totally agree about taking a break, Nata.  GCF posts make me crazier than crazy-ass posts do! LOL

I have to say, though I hate to admit it, there is a newer person on the forum who drives me almost instantly batty.  BUT.... I TOTALLY give her a huge amount of credit for A - not blocking me and B - taking it like the woman she apparently is.  Respect earned.

Your not talking about ME I hope!!!!!  Considering I am raising your "Mini-me"!!  That would just be cruel and I don't like mean people!  hahahaha...

Here is my add-on to your origional post!   For the love of God take a minute to READ what was written....read it a few times if it got your panties in a bunch.... make sure you are not jumping to conclusions.... Then respond.... RE-READ YOUR RESPONSE, does the tone match the point you are trying to get across?  Hit send.  IF it makes you too mad...don't respond!

Good post, Karen.

I hardly block anyone, just people who have been spammers, or obviously just trying to inflame things.

I sometimes take short breaks (not too long, cuz i miss my peeps!!) And find it very helpful.

I do have to refrain from posting sometimes, I'll type out long diatribes to people, then delete them, just cuz i realize i'm taking something too personally, or i'm being too persnickety about minor crap.

I took a break for awhile, as there was a person who bothered me a lot, and to be frank, I had NO idea about the blocking feature lol. That person doesn't post anymore, so i'm happy about that, but I'm also happier with myself so I don't let people get to me as much as they used to.

We are all on here for support, information and help. Why there has to be arguements and hurt feelings (which, I admit, my recent hurt feeling was very personal about a problem I have, so I raged about that) is beyond me.

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

"Why there has to be arguments and hurt feelings"
- we are all humans. we get emotional, mad and angry, Some have better self control than the others.
- we react with different intensity to different things, what's drama for one person, can be just a joke for another
- we have different educational and cultural background - what's inappropriate for you can be totally normal for me
- the forum has more than one side, it's an open resource and if there are people who want a fight, there's going to be fight, if there are people with need of hugs and kudos, there's going to be "pink corner with rainbows and unicorns" and if some one wants to brag, or give unsolicited advices, or... whatever - it's going to be on line - the price of freedom. I appreciate all sides of it and consider a good fight to be a valuable addition to the forum. You get info, that normally people refrain from letting out, some people get excited, other ones let their steam out...yes, some one gets hurt... Public, free of moderation resource is just about it all.
