So I'm officially a runner
Yesterday I ran my first-ever-in-my-life 5k. It was in support of Brain Injury Society of Toronto, a fantastic organization that I'm associated with through my work. I'd been to the run before - only as a walker and even then it was hard. In the months leading up to the run, as I trained I imagined what the event would look like and feel like. Seeing in my mind's eye that I could do this helped me stay focussed and kept that goal in sight. But even the best of my imagination didn't compare to the actual FEELING of completing that run. Running alongside colleagues and friends - and keeping up to them!! Seeing my husband & kids at the finish line cheering me on as I crossed it. It was overwhelming. Such a feeling of power and accomplishment!
There was a moment just past the 4km mark when I thought I couldn't do it. Then I remembered something posted on this board earlier this week (my apologies - I can't remember who said it). It was about being able to do hard things. Such a simple sentiment, yet so powerful. I can do hard things. I can do hard things. I think that's my new mantra. Sixteen months ago, I weighed 282lbs. Today I weigh 136. I can do hard things. This is a photo of me with my colleagues; I'm the one in the middle front in the pink jacket. One of the best days of my life, for sure.

Welcome to the runners club. Finishing your first 5k is something you will never forget. Your family should be proud of you. When you are out there running and you are getting tired just remember you are a women and you are strong and you can do it. Before you know it you will be running a marathon.

Your post had me grinning ear to ear. LOVE the photo - go you!
