I'm on day 10 of opti and I have such a bad taste in my mouth.  I brush my teeth a bazillion times a day. I use mouthwash. I chew gum...but this taste persists. I even have to brush my teeth in the middle of the night.  I'm sure it's quite normal, but any thoughts on when it stops?

yes, your body is in ketosis. When it produces ketones which also produces very bad breath.

It reduces when you start eating more carbs and green vegetables.

In the meantime, sugar free gum, and learning to stand 3 feet back from people.

You are losing weight at your fastest in ketosis, embrace and brush/mouth wash often.  It doesn't last when you start eating more (especially carbs - so avoid them).  The longer it lasts the faster your weight loss will be.

I had a  terrible taste in my mouth during my four weeks of Optifast.   For me it was not only ketosis but also the aspartane that this in the Opti.   Once I finished with the Opti and the clear fluids (where I was eating Jello Light that also had aspartane)  the bad taste went away.

I read that drinking more water may help and if your allowed add a few drops of peppermint extract or peppermint oil to your water.

I would not get in that habit of chewing gum at this point in your process, swallowing it can cause major issues post rny (assuming thats what you're getting).  Tic Tacs or something like that would be better.

Yep it is Keytosis (however it is spelled), Very good sign, it means it is working removing the fat around your liver.  Just drink water, crystal light, brush teeth and mouth wash.  Just think you will have very clean teeth for surgery!  lol

It's one of those "grin and bear it" kinda things....many more to come! lol

Good luck with your sugery!

If you're driving you want to be prepared for police road checks as well. They can think they smell alcohol on your breath and really give you a hard time over it.
