Kick Carbs to the Curb!  AKA some variation of the 5 day pouch test, which you can read about here:

http://www.5daypouchtest.com/

NO, it will not shrink your pouch. NO, you will not miraculously lose 25 pounds.  BUT!  You will get a protein-rich diet and kick those pesky carbs outta your life.  At least for a while. :)

Who's in?

Is this test safe for anyone, even those who haven't had RNY?

Yes, it's just a protein diet.  I wouldn't do it if I were under 6 months out of ANY surgery, but I know Nata uses some semblance of it when she wants to kick the carbs and she's a DS'r. And I know some VSG'rs who have done it.  Or something similar.

Is that what you're asking? lol

I'm just wondering if it's something my husband can do too...he has had no surgeries.  We are all fighting carb cravings at home right now...even my son.

It's no different than a normie doing the Atkins diet and it's only for 5 days.  Definitely safe.

Have you done this yet Monica? I'm considering it, but not sure if it's doable without veggies and other carbs. I could just measure my sugars constantly I guess.

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

Don't do anything that may affect your blood sugars, Kelly. As an FYI, I will be adding some green veggies on day 3 when we can have eggs, as I'll make a crustless quiche with a few green onions, chives and green peppers just for flavour.  Also, day 1 you're allowed cream soups, which have carbs for sure. And apparently we're allowed salsa, which is totally veggies.

I think the key is to cut down as best you can. i.e. no bread, no pasta, no rice, no crackers, etc.
