The GERD has been a long term issue, in fact it was the investigation for r/o ulcer that they discovered the massive hiatus hernia, at the time of my "scope" Dr Hagen found my entire stomach in my chest cavity and was able to "mechanically" manouver it back into place. Now they wonder if this Hiatus Hernia has been the issue all along the chicken (hiatus hernia) to the egg(GERD)

Hi Leona,

I am glad you are getting this looked after. Dr Hagen repaired my hiatus hernia (2nd time) when he did my RNY. He told me to take prevacid fastab for the rest of my life. Small price for me to pay for the assurance of the gerd not ever bothering me and hopefully no ulcers. I feel fine taking it.

I am also seeing dr hagen at his office on monday for my one year post-op. My appt is at 2.45 pm. When is your's? I would love to meet you.

He told me to come in after work so I am aiming for 4 at the moment but may call Monday and see what they say.

I am currently taking Dexalant (mega PPI) Ranitadine(H2 Inhibitor), Sulcrate (mega Maalox), Motilium and a bottle of TUMS/week so anything will be an improvement. . .trust me!

Edited to add my GI guy is a published espert on GERD (David Armstrong out of MUMC in Hamilton)

I am glad the decision making is finalized and now the wait for a date begins. Because I am allergic to Aspartame I was able to use Premier Protein from Costco instead of Opti, Not sure if that is an option for you or if you can't tolerate Opti, but best wishes and let us know your date.

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
