Who has had DS in Hamilton??? Please help!

Dr. Hong is the surgeon in Hamilton that does DS. He has done a few that he plans on doing in 2 step and they only have the VSG so far. Patxyz had DS in one step as did another poster but forget her name. Everyone in Ontario has to be referred to the bariatric registry by their GP and then they are assigned a centre by postal code. Pat went through the whole process at TWH and then asked for a 2nd opinion with Dr. Hong then saw him and had surgery there.

No idea why he is doing 2 step in some and not others, maybe high BMI? TWH is Toronto Western. If your friend is from Northern Ontario she will be sent to Sudbury for assessment and they use St. Joe's Toronto as their surgery centre.
You can put in her postal code here and it will tell you where she will be sent. I'm not sure if you can ask to be referred directly to St. Joe's Hamilton if you want the DS.

Dr. Hong in Hamilton is Ontario's only DS surgeon. He has done 5 so far this year and there are two more approved and waiting to be scheduled, and more hoping for approval.
Your friend will have to be referred by her family doc through the registry to an assessment centre based on postal code and then be referred by a surgeon at that centre to Dr. Hong for his opinion on the DS. The centre she is assigned to cannot refuse her a referral to Dr. Hong to discuss the DS as only a DS surgeon can tell her if it is an appropriate surgery for her. Your friend will have to demonstrate a medically based reason for not wanting the RNY and VSG in order to be approved for DS.
