Patients is a virtue?....

A saying my mother used to tell me all the time...I would like to think that I have learned a little, and most of my friends and tell me I am the most patient one in the family....unless it is something I really desire.

So, when I decided to take the advice posted in my last topic, I put on my very nice, sweet sounding  and sugar loaded voice and called into the Clinic yesterday morning, while I had a break at work...

"I am sorry to say, that even those people who had their orientations, from September 17 th on, have not even been booked for their first appointments, and the earliest that yours maybe booked is in January...And if you still don't get one booked by then, call us back"

I thanked Nancy, the lovely lady I spoke to, hung up the phone, and felt like screaming, I didn't, I am sure I would of been doing CPR on some of the seniors I work with. Is this the start of bad luck for me?  I mean I going to call on Monday, and ask to be please put on a cancelation list. But...I mean at the info session we were told, the first appointment would be five weeks from the session, Not five months.

I know, I should count my lucky stars that I am able to have this opportunity, and have it mostly paid for...It's just a little frustrating when I know...well I think I know I am ready for this and want to move on and get it started...

i waited 22 months from referral to surgery in guelph. 

I waited about the same amount of time from orientation to my first appointments through Ottawa....and now Kingston ( Nov 2011 - June 2012 ).  Am still waiting to meet a surgeon, however that has something to do with the fact that I have to see an endocrinologist as I have Type 2 Diabetes.  I've learned just to put the surgery to the back of my mind and do what I can to stay as healthy as possible while waiting.  Patience really is a must with this process I'm afraid!

Perhaps patience is a virtue, but being a patient is not! 

Yes it can be frustrating to see how some folks in other areas are moving faster than others.  Especially when you have decided that you are ready for this journey.  The good news is that you are extra prepared for what is to come.

I had my referral in September 2010.  My surgery was in December 2011 (Ottawa).

my timelines below :) to be honest I found being obsessed with these forums almost makes the wait longer. I stayed away from the wls topic and forums and just pretended it wasnt happening for about 6 months , and i have to say those 6 months went by the fastest but alas im back lol. your time will come 

You're so right, Christina -- I too, had to back off for a bit, as I was becoming obsessive about it. 

To the OP (original poster), honest, your time will come.  I am 20 months out from referral and expect surgery in the next three to six months.

Hi Lisa.  I'm from Hamilton too and will be having my surgery at St. Joes.

 My doctor sent in referral Nov 25/2011, orientation was June 4/2012, bloodwork August 2012, saw nurses at clinic Sept. 5/2012, oximeter test Sept 14/2012, ultrasound Sept 20/2012, saw internal medicine doctor Oct 3/2012, endoscopy and colonoscopy Oct 18/2012, heart stress test Nov 6/2012, see social worker Nov 22/2012, sleep study Dec 7/2012

Do not have a date yet to see the surgeon but the internal medicine doc said that my surgery could be February or March as long as the rest of my tests turn out ok.

Most of my tests were actually scheduled to be completed by Nov 1, but my mom took very ill with cancer and I had to reschedule most of my tests.  She passed away on her birthday Sept 23, but she'll be with me to help me through this journey!

I am sorry for your loss TML, I lost my mother when I was 18 and I know it is hard...Even still thinking about her I get tears in my eyes. Part of the reason I am on my journey, is because since her passing I have been doing everything for my family and looking after everything.

Now my dad is starting to get older, and well with age comes difficulties...or so in my family, I don't want to be 31 and have a heart attack, or have diabetes. Right now, When I went to my doctors, had blood test done before he would refer me...I was actually very surprised...He said I was green across the board.

Maybe I will take your advice straberry!. I only come on every couple of days, I do like to see how everyone is doing, Pre and Post Op. But maybe not thinking constantly will make the time go faster.
