Running my longest race tomorrow
Come now, that in the face of fear, you walked up, got your number for the race and committed yourself to it means you've won. That others might finish the race before you is merely a detail. Think about yourself three years ago and what you would have said and felt like if someone told you you should enter this race. Look at how far you've come. Like all your victories since then, these hills that look so big now, will become small in your rear view mirror.
Your hair will grow back, pain is temporary and experience lasts a lifetime. Go get em'!
Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.

Well put. Kind of poetic like it should be lyrics.
"Come now, you faced the fear,
those hills that look so big now
will be small in the rear view mirror..."
I will. Leaving in about 40 minutes. Race starts at 1000. It's already a balmy +2.
Good luck!!
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
Best of luck today, Heather - I'm sure you'll do great! And if you have to walk up a hill, then you have to walk up a hill - so be it. You'll be running the rest of the way, and wow, what an accomplishment! I stand in awe of anyone who can run more than a block, which is about how far I can run! :)
That sign you mention about loving hills or losing - it's crappy and macho and not at all encouraging, and I would ignore it if I were you. I think for most people, running isn't about winning or losing, it's about the journey. Sure, for some elite athletes, running is about winning. But you don't have to be an elite athlete to be a runner or to enjoy running.
Have a good race today, but more importantly, ENJOY your race. Even if there's a little walking. Even if you don't win. Even if you are bigger than some of the others in the race. You're doing it, and that's amazing!

Thank you. I did enjoy my race. It felt good to finish despite all the things that popped up. I am looking forward to doing it again.
"crappy and macho" I like it. Screw you hot shot sign! I did it my way and had fun!
Thanks again.
That's the spirit! Glad your race went so well! :)

I know how you are feeling. I decided to do the MS bike ride last summer. The night before I paniced. What on earth was I thinking. It was hard. There was a monster hill I walked up. Not a chance I could ride it. But I did finish the race ahead of some of my sons younger and healther co-workers. I know you can do this. Good luck
Yea! We are good aren't we. It's probably selfish, but it felt good to pass a thin person just before the finish line ![]()
