December's Challenge Within A Challenge. LONG (But please read, all challenge...
Good morning CTCC participants. Have I told you lately how wonderful you are??? I’ve been working on coming up with this months’ Challenge Within a Challenge and I think I’ve finally got all the kinks worked out. Here it is:
I’m a lucky woman. I have a roof over my head and food for my pouch. I have wonderful friends (and even a few great family members). My closet has clothes. My animals are fed and well cared for. I can afford to heat my home. I have a job. I have a car. I am happy. Anyone else count their blessings lately? I know the holiday season can be difficult for many and I’m hoping the members of the CRAZY Trans-Canada Challenge can help make it a bit better for others. This months’ challenge is not about how far we go (but don’t lose sight of that!) or about how often we move. This month’s challenge is to make a difference in the lives of others.
Here’s the deal. Each and every one of you will be entered into this months’ draw regardless of how much or how little you do. I will not be making anyone toot their own horn BUT I hope that by extending a challenge to you all to make the world a better place it can get the ball rolling in a good way.
I’d like us all to make an effort to help others this holiday season. I’ve had several personal messages offering to help out with prizes for the CTCC. I’ve always refused but here’s a way that you can help. Please consider helping any number of worthy charities this time of year. That doesn’t only mean donating money but it can be donating time, offering a kind word or sound advice or just being there for someone in need. Here are a few suggestions (please feel free to post other ideas too!):
- Donate to a worthy charity. You can make it obesity/health related by choosing one of the following: Heart and Stroke foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, Childhood Obesity Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society. The Trans-Canada Trail people also accept donations.
- Donate your time – whether it’s a one time thing or an ongoing volunteer opportunity, give back where you can.
- Pick up trash.
- Shovel your neighbour’s walkway.
- Extend the hand of friendship to someone who’s lonely.
- Pick a day and make it a point to only say and think positive things on that day. You’d be amazed at how your outlook changes.
- Cook a meal for someone.
- Call someone you’ve been meaning to for a while but just haven’t gotten around to.
- Look after someone’s pet.
- Rescue an animal (if you have the time and resources to do so)
- Donate your old clothes that no longer fit
- Make a donation to your local food bank
These are just some simple suggestions but you are all intelligent people. Surprise me. Surprise yourself. Make giving your mission this month.
I’d really like to keep track of all the wonderful things we accomplish this month so this is what I propose. I’ve set up an email account that anyone can access. Please use this email address to send me your good deeds anonymously. My email address is [email protected] The anonymous email from which you send me your info is [email protected] The password for this account is obesityhelp. Please be as specific as possible when reporting your good deeds. For example, say “I donated 4 cans of beans and 2 boxes of pasta to my food bank.” I’d like to make a list of all our good deeds for the month. Let’s brighten the lives of others and prove that we can make a difference.
Just FYI, I am not a member of any church nor do I wish to be. This is not a religion sponsored challenge. This is a humanity sponsored challenge. If you are a member of a church and that is how you help out, I’d love to hear about that as well.
I had someone tell me that their few little kilometres they manage for the challenge isn’t going to add up to much. Let’s prove that even small acts can add up to big things.

You're making me all teary-eyed. Please don't make me cry. I'm an ugly crier. ![]()
I **LOVE** this idea. And thank you for allowing us to report it anonymously. I don't need public recognition for the private things I do for others. Great idea!
