Pill crushing...2 days post op.
Hello all! I'm 2 days post op and a little frustrated at all the pills I have to crush and drink. Its disgusting! Then to top it all off I left the hospital TODAY with a prescription for 3 more. 1 is the perks I was already crushing in the hospital, the others were a stool softener that the pharmacist said was a capsule that was uncrushable and a stomach acid medicine that isn't available at our normal pharmacy in "suspension" form and we had to go to a compound pharmacy and it's going to cost $120! How long does this last??? I hate it! I also have to crush 2 other pills I already take and it takes me about an hour to get each one down! UGH!

I am two weeks post-op, yesterday, and I am now *not* crushing my pills. The multi-vitamin and Metformin have to be cut in half or quarters, but they are a delight compared to the crushing. I bought a $10 pill crusher whi*****ludes a pill cutter, at Shoppers Drug Mart, and it was worth every cent. (Well, I guess every nickel now, since we're rounding up or down from pennies.) But I digress...
I was given this information and had some medications stopped or reduced at my one week follow up on January 31.
Hope you get the news to stop/change soon.

No problem -- I am in Ottawa and the protocol here is that we meet with the nurse practitioner one week out from surgery, then follow up in another six to eight weeks, seeing our family physician at one month for medication adjustments, etc. I don't know what your Centre's protocol is.
Something I found that helped was to crush the meds, place them all on a spoon, have water ready and then tip the crushed meds in to my mouth, followed by as large a sip of water as was appropriate. I had tried them in sugar free applesauce, mixed them with water and something else, but I best tolerated them in one dose, getting it over with. I had no problems other than making sure I took them with my dentures out. With my dentures in, the disgusting little pieces slipped under the appliance and got caught. *shudder*
Again, it worked for me, it might for you.
And sorry for the confusion about appointments, I should have mentioned that at the start.
I am thirteen days ahead of you and each day *is* better. Those vets know what they are talking about. ![]()

I couldn't take liquid tylenol and the calcium started me heaving so I was splitting pills the third day. The stool softner was a gelcap, fairly small anyway so I just swallowed it, the rest I split into gravol size bits and chased them with water. Not fun but better than what you're experiencing I think. Heal well!
