Hi all,

I've been away from the site for a while- I'm 8mos post RNY and have lost 125lbs! 25lbs from goal. And happy no complications but have recently become complacent!

Have stopped taking vitamins (at least two months now) and after my stall at 100lbs (that lasted 6 weeks- total bummer) have become more carb than protein intake! Especially because I realized the scale moves if you have intake to burn - no matter what kind of intake.

Needless to say went crazy with junk over holidays- always a gut ache never dumping (just on oil/grease- but they were never my problem- sweets were, are, is!)

Was hoping to keep the "fear" longer of the consequences of the vitamin lapse and food binge but unfortunately have been reinforced by good bloodwork and like I said still weight loss.

ON the positive- I am going to the gym minimum 4x week and energy is good. No regrets- sooo why am I blowing it!!! Taking this second chance at life and just wasting it!!!!

Stopped going to post op support group at st. joes because I found their were a few negative influences there and a bit hard to relate as most people were way post op. but they offering CBT post op so I'm going to try and get in.

TIA for your time, thoughts, anyone else been through this?

Kelsey

take your vitamins. No excuses why you're not. Just take them. You can cause yourself some serious damage. Get yourself back on track. Find some accountability, participate in the 'what are you doing/eating today" thread, or something. This is on you.

I am a month newer than you at this and have found it much harder as my pouch seems to allow me to eat whatever.  Over Christmas I simply banned cookies, sweets, breads from my diet and found it Ok to watch others indulge (though I really missed the traditional chocolate orange in my stocking)!  When I research recipes to make (I do 95% of our cooking) I focus on ones where the protein count is as high or higher than the carbs and am serving lots of simply cooked proteins with a small green salad.  My niece lives with us for the next month and she's vegetarian so I end up making a bunch of dishes where the carb count is higher than I like.  They are high because of the veggies and mostly low in fat so when I partake in these I try to concentrate on the purest of protein sources for the rest of the day.  Its a challenge to limit carbs, no question.  But we have to.

Good luck with your support groups, great idea.  They can only support your efforts though.  May 2013 find you at your goal weight and focused on being good to yourself!  kiss

If you do not like the support group at St Joes find another. There are small groups that meet in a lot of areas. As many have said the surgery just changes our bodies not our minds. It is good you are looking for help with the CBT. Our minds are our biggest challenge.

Also get back to the vits. They are a pain but needed in the long term for health

You've answered all of your questions and you know what you need to do.  We can't tell you to do it - it's up to you. If you want it - get it.

Congratulations on your fabulous weight loss. However I urge you to start taking your vitamins right away. I can;t see how they would impede your weight loss and it is necessary for your good health.

Great job on your loss. And for posting as well. I went through a separation, and when we physically separated I was six months out. Still malabsorbing, and losing, no matter what I put in my mouth. I went a bit crazy for a bit, and quickly found my way back, especially as my sugars started going crazy low. Find your way back now, as you are finishing up your honeymoon period and you have a lifetime of maintaining and good habits ahead of you. Now is the time to get on track.

Good luck!

"Take your vitamins" is an old mantra that everyone knows and many of us sometimes forget.

NOW, did you have RnY? Do you know that you don't produce enough intrinsic factor?

Do you know to what complication leads the B 12 deficiency?

read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_B12_deficiency

I'm citing this specifically for you: "It can cause permanent damage to nervous tissue"

Not trying to scare you, just to warn...

My 70 y.o. father had this deficiency (not wls related, but due to stomach resection) and ended up with permanent loss of sensitivity in both of his legs. One of my friends from this forum, who had the wls surgery five years ago, also lost sensitivity in her whole body, was hospitalized for quite long time. BTW, in the worst cases, if untreated, it ends up in BRAIN DAMAGE.

Just IMHO: Regain, iron anemia, even some bone loss and osteoporosis are kind of treatable. "permanent damage to nervous tissue" is for life. TAKE YOUR VIT B NOW!

Nata, a very happy DSer!

Wow! Thank you all- especially Nata! That is exactly what I needed to hear! When the consequences are not immediately felt - it is easy to dismiss them.

I am happy to say I have re-organized my dosette. I think part of my deterrant is the giant calcium pills- because they had to be broken seems like more- and can't do liquid (too sour/aciditc) and not doable while out and about so often missed.  Also my iron is a particular kind I have to be on - (must be opened and drowned in applesauce (only thing that cuts the taste - also difficult to do when working or out.

Even as I type I realize how whiny these things sound. Thanks again all!
