Yes...I'm a teacher and I SUCK at math. Help please!
I am horrifically bad at math. At least I only have to teach grade 5 math! Anyhow, I want to know how to figure out what percentage of my diet is fat, carb, and protein. Can someone tell me how to do that? Here are my stats from today:
Calories: 1277
Fat: 40g
Carbs: 95g
Protein: 128
What I did was to total the fat, carbs, and protein, and then divide each by the total to find a percentage, but the numbers do not add up to 100%, the make 104% Someone please help this poor math phobic

Fat is 9 calories per gram and carbs and protein are 4 calories per gram.
Take your fat and multiply by 9 then divide by your total calories and multiply by 100.
Take your carbs and multiply by 4 then divide by your total calories and multiply by 100.
Take your protein and multiply by 4 then divide by your total calories and multiply by 100.
Your homework: Go do it and post your totals and I will check them.
FYI those numbers don't add up to 1277 calories, those numbers would be 1252 calories.

You did it right the first time with the numbers that you had, it's just that the grams don't add up to the original calories that you had listed. Did you use an online tracker to do it as I find sometimes they don't add up their math right either. People input items and if they are off by one gram then it changes the whole total calorie thing. It may also take out the fibre from the total carbs yet leave it the calories but in this case it was only out by 25 calories to match the other numbers so it wasn't a huge difference.
I keep a notebook, so I must have added wrong as I worked my way down the list. I can't put it into the computer, I find it too fiddley. I also like to jot notes down and sometimes, if I change something, it's easier to adjust before I make my totals. Ex. the other day I only ate aprox. half of what I put down for lunch. Thanks so much for the help. I was really glad to see that my percentages were pretty good for what I was eating.
Well, well, well.... look what the cat dragged in.
