Not Fat Enough?
They don't weigh you until you meet the dietician and nurse. It can be a few months until you meet the surgeon and another 4 months until you have surgery. This depends on which Center you are going to. Some are faster.
Before surgery they put you on Optifast for 2 weeks or more (depending on your weight and health) and you will lose weight.
If you are a lightweight, I would not bother trying to lose weight , as you will on Optifast and after surgery. You don't want to get out of the category of acceptance into the program. (In my opinion, only).
I was weighed at orientation. Someone asked the question about losing weight before the next appointment and in Ottawa we were told that losing weight is encouraged and that they will go by your initial intake weight at orientation to determine your initial BMI. I did not have any other health issues, at least I didn't think I had. In fact I have a moderate case of sleep apnea which requires a CPAP machine. In June I was diagnosed with diabetes, which I did not have at my physical 6 months earlier. Being in this process helped me to catch these things early. You may not be as healthy as you think you are. I sure wasn't.
that's a good question to ask, whether losing weight through the process will disqualify you.
I lost weight during the orientation process (a lightweight) and HRRH never said anything.
If asked I said "I'm trying to adopt these good habits"
PS, if pigging out, go for high bulk foods with salt (retain water and fill intestines) which are good for weigh in then poop out, not high fat foods which are dense and add fat but not immediate poundage!
