Calcium citrate is better absorbed post-surgery. The American Society of Bariatric Surgeons lists Calcium citrate with vitamin D (1,200-2,000 mg/d + 400-800 U/d). Check out page 23 of the following document:

I took liquid calcium citrate post-op (both the Wellesse and Life brands), both were fine. Now I'm comfortable swallowing pills so I do Citracal, but the liquid stuff got me by for a long time.
I have heard conflicting info about Jamieson sublinguals so I avoid them. I use the 1000 mcg sublingual pills from Natural Factors, they are very well absorbed and high quality supplement. I get them from a health food store.

From what I have been told by a naturopath who studies this stuff as part of her professional development carbonate can't even be absorbed by anyone, let alone folks with malabsorption issues. So citrate it is with a D supplement to help it be absorbed. The calcium and D should be taken with food and not close to other supplements so I fit them in with my morning and afternoon snack.
I have opted for B12 shots once a month, my family doc taught my spouse how to inject it IM, much easier than going to him every month and remembering the sublingual strips several times a week.
