Stupid Question

I noticed some people have PATTS in their time line. Is that the blood work?
Will I have a class before surgery also?

I had blood work done last week, does that mean I could be really close to surgery? or they do that a few months before you get your surgery date?

The social worker said "Danielle, all you have left is getting your date. surgery is just around that corner". The nurse suggested I switch surgeons but the social worker was against this. I think she felt this would delay the process for me?

FTR- I'm okay with my surgeon. It was suggested by the nurse to be with a friend who doesn't speak English and needs help.

LOL I really hope I can get an idea tomorrow when my surgery could be. The control freak in me needs to plan. I started getting all my files updated at work.

So they will do chest x-rays for sure?

I was wondering WTH PATTS was also!! I see my surgeon tomorrow for first time. Then Mar 25th I do my Social Worker, Nurse, and Nut. I was wondering if that is it before seeing surgeon and booking date?

You can see by my dates below the timeline for my surgery in April. .  Met Dr Smith in Sept. and he told me to expect surgery approx. 3 months from when the RN/SW/NUT gave their recommendations which was end of Nov 2012. (I also had bloodwork at HRRH after those meetings Nov).  My next meet with Dr. Smith & PATTS is April 9th and pick up OPTI then.  Seems kinda delayed to me compared to some who are even now getting earlier dates for HRRH but am being patient, filling these long winter weeks with  healthy changes, going to gym and projects at home.  Patience is (apparently) a virtue!

Referred HRRH Apr.  2012, Info. Session: Sept 12/12, Surgeon Consult: Dr L Smith Sept 19/12,  RD/SW/RN/ Nov 19/12.  Surgery Date:  April 29, 2013

Dr Smith is now booking July surgery dates.  People that met with him in the past 10 days all have early July dates.  PATTS is done  4-5 weeks before the actual surgery date. Once you are given a surgery date, they will give you a PATTS day as well.

That makes me want to cry. I do not want to wait until July or August.

Danielle - don't despair!   Timelines vary so much depending on the centres and the surgeons assigned but everything happens for a reason.  I have waited about one year from my original referral to HRRH to the planned surgery date while others have gone 6 months to 2 years! I actually tried to estimate my dates too and thought I would be over and done with surgery by now and recovering at home over the winter.    In the meantime a lot of things have come up and April will work out just fine too.

Everyone's journey is different depending on their personal  and health situations, tests and follow up required.  Wait until your meeting with Dr. Smith - I found my meeting with him to be really encouraging and reassuring - he calmed a lot of my fears.  All the very best as you move forward.
