Vent - stupid thing my husband said
I would have probably asked if mine would care to wager.
That said I paid for a family membership to the gym last year that mine wanted for xmas and he went twice... so... *shrug*
Run your race... enjoy it... and if he's not playing then maybe find an all womens one? Then he can't join in even if he decides to.
That would be the last my husband would hear about training from me - I'd pick a race and start training without him. If he noticed that I was starting to train and that I'd picked and signed up for a race without him and asked me about it, I'd calmly tell him, "The last time I brought it up, you were insulting. I don't need a training partner who insults me. If you want to run the race, sign up and plan your own training. I'm not interested in training with you anymore." And then I'd stick to it.
If he learned something from it or said he was sorry, then I'd let him train with me on the NEXT race. But not this one. People have to learn that they can't talk **** to people and that there are consequences if they do, especially people they're supposed to love and support. Grr!
P.S. As you can probably tell, I'm not a marriage counsellor. ;)

Then wipe that track with him all the way to the end!
As Julie said "forever bragging rights"...
Ohhh and when he eventually passes the finish line ( well behind you) pat him on the shoulder and whisper in his ear... " if you start training now maybe you can keep up next year!... Or maybe not... "
You will do great! Don't let anyone bring you down !
The best revenge is to prove him wrong. Not get mad, not feel slighted, just inspired and determined. Don't talk about it anymore with him, just show up and do what you know you can do and let the great feelings of victory wash over you. It's never been a weakness to be underestimated in a competition. So use it to push you to new heights and enjoy the view.
Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.
