Surgery Process Question
Yes I have a low BMI but that should not be a factor. I know people much heavier than me who are healthier than I. I am in constant pain. I work on my feet and am at the point where I may need to quit my job. My body cannot handle this weight and I am not afraid to fight for my health and well being. Not one to sit around and let others decide what I need. I know my body better than anyone.
While I can understand that you know your body better than anyone else, it will not get you an appointment any faster than anyone else. Sorry, but there are a lot of people that attempt to fast track their surgery (and I'm not saying that you are more in need than others or not because I don't know your personal cir****tances) and it just doesn't work that way or I would be very surprised. In the case of getting a surgery date, patience is indeed a virtue.
P.S. If I understand correctly you had your first wls appointment in January and could have surgery in Aug-Sept? You are already doing better than most.

If your goal is may you might want to book that flight, I'm sure they would not find it at all a challenge to fill your August spot, I know the wait is hard but we are all struggling to get there. My apologies if you felt I was belittling your pain, morbid obesity is a horrible way to live it impacts us emotionally as well as physically, really I do get it........

hey bubbles,
A lot of us NEED the surgery sooner than later. I am in constant pain and have to have my toe fused and my knee replaced. I also just managed to get high blood pressure and I am scared to death.
I am an extremely proactive and dynamic individual and when I see a fight I can fight, I am all up in it, guns blazing. However, in this case, you don't get to jump the line. We are all in the same leaky boat, This is technically an elective surgery and you are no more entitled than anyone else here who has been waiting. The process is generally surgery 1 year from referral.
From hanging around here I have noticed that some people get "lucky" by being in the right place at the right time and some centres are a little faster than others but, for the most part, you can squeak and demand all you want and what you might end up doing is slowing things down, exactly the opposite of what you want. They don't trade hospitals or surgeons just because you are in a hurry. They are a "team" and they work together.
You would be far better off bugging your GP for appropriate pain management and doing as much as you can to get your head around waiting. If you are having a difficult time at work, have your GP explain your limitations. Your employer is legally required to make accommodations for any issues you might have.
Sometimes the hardest battle is knowing when to pick your fights and knowing when to be happy that you live somewhere where you don't have to pay thousands of dollars for what you need.
Best of luck,
Lori
Sorry to have voiced my opinions. Seems to have ruffled a lot of feathers. I will keep my opinions and thoughts to myself as I always have before coming to this forum for the support I was hoping to find. I will just wait my turn like everyone else and not bother you all anymore with my issues. For those of you who have been very supportive, thank you.
