Questions before surgery
Hi everyone, my name is Jess, I am meeting the surgeon on Friday to get my surgery date. I was told that it is pretty fast because the consent forms expire, how long was it for you from that meeting to surgery?
Also I have heard about hair thinning, has anyone experienced this and also has any one found solutions to help prevent this?
Does anyone have a desk job, if so how long after surgery did you return to work? Thank you all
Hi Jess,
How exciting! Good luck at the surgeon on Friday.
I had my surgeon appointment in mid-August, and my surgery was in mid-October. I've heard of dates being further out than that though (3-4 months after the surgeon appointment). Which centre are you going through?
I've heard that a product called Biotin might help with hair re-growth, but that it could also lead to growth on other areas of the body.
I have a desk job and was off work for 2 weeks, then worked from home for 1 week.
I hope this helps!

Thank you, I am going through the Ottawa Hospital at the Weight management Clinic. I am excited, when I asked the receptionist she said that surgery has to be within a few months before your forms expire lol.
Hair in other places, lol well I am not hairy at all but don't want to be either, I was told it was temporary anyway because of the drop in vitamins.
Yeah i spoke to my boss about working from home too if I need it and she said she would accommodate me, so I am hoping she will still do that.
Did you have any complications? How long ago was your surgery? I am currently at 250lbs , not sure what my end weight will be I am hoping for 150 to 160 but they said more around 170 to 190.
Hi Jess,
I was through Ottawa, but when I was there in 2011, the process was that the on the first week of the month, they book the next month's surgeries. Not sure if it's the same. Actually I thought I had missed it, but got a call to start Opti the next day so I had just under the 3 weeks of Opti I was supposed to have.
As for hair loss, everyone has it. If your hair is long, you may want to cut it shorter, I find that the longer my hair is, the more it pulls out. I still have hair loss, but it is probably related to something other than WLS.
I have a desk job, and because I didn't have any real complications, I was only given 4 weeks. The only complication I had was an oozing incision, I was put on antibiotics, but it wasn't infected that I could tell. It eventually did stop, but lost half the swimming season because of it (can't have your incisions submerged if they leak at all).
Good luck with your date!
Cathy
