Yup, it's a tool not a miracle. I pity those who enter into this with the idea they won't have to work their butt off exercising or following a healthy diet. Old habits are easy to fall back into if you don't take steps to avoid them while you have the chance.
Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.

Like your wise posters have said so far, yup, yup, and yup to your three questions. It isn't magic and it requires a commitment to change both activity level and diet. But it gives you a window of time when both are much easier than pre surgery, at least imo. You can open that window and crawl through or stay and the couch and return to your old presurgery self. It is, like many things in life, up to you!
