Cosmetic surgery in Cuba
Hi Paramedic,
I was just wondering what the price difference between getting the skin removal done here and in Cuba is?
I was told at the orientation session that for me, about 295 lbs at the time, full skin removal would be $35,000.00 here, and OHIP might pay $5,000.00 of that, if medically necessary.
Jenn. :)
Clinica Cira Garcia is a multidisciplinary hospital in Havana exclusively for foreigners and diplomats, and is recommended on Canada's Foreign Affairs travel advisory site if you need medical attention while in Cuba. They offer a number of surgical procedures among them hip and knee replacements, dental implants, etc as well as cosmetic surgeries to foreigners at greatly reduced prices compared to local Canadian prices.
Here's a link, prices are listed in Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC), not sure of the rate now, but was a little over a C$ for a CUC, and payable with a Canadian credit card when you go..Best to take any compression garments you need with you as the hospital shop sells them, but you may not have much choice.
They do not ship you to a hotel for recovery, you can stay in your private room paying room and board which was about $40-50 a day and the doctors are onsite if anything happens as you get checked daily and bandages changed, etc( you can have a family member stay with you by paying x2 ) Explore the Clinica Cira Garcia site ( good luck with the poor English) and see photos if you Google and then click on Images... I understand you have no choice of surgeon, they are 4 and operate in a team from what a Canadian said who had ben there, and there are interpreters who help with commnications...They have English, German, and French capabilities and of course Spanish. Seems a lot of Quebecois fly non-stop out of Montreal 3.5 hours and check into the hospital like you would at a hotel, and stay there the whole duration as cheaper to stay "in" than move to a hotel....
On the Ontario OH site there is a Plastic Surgery sub-site, you have to register to have access, but there were some postings about someone who had a tummy tuck and went back for a thigh lift, and had met up with lots of people from Canada and other countries having armlifts and facelifts as well..Some even decided to have dental work done as implants are a lot cheaper...Suggest you read the various posts

...and here's the link to the Ontario OH Plastic Surgery discussion ( but you have to join or you can't see the discussion threads)

good luck...and do your research.....make sure that you will have someone accompany you so that you know exactly where and whom is doing the surgery...once you have been given anesthesia, you have no recourse on where they do the surgery.
Also check into follow-up care...will you be in a hospital or are they going to ship you to some hotel.
(unsolicited two cents)
Remember when having cosmetic surgery outside of Canada...if you have complications when you get back (hopefully that doesn't happen)./...you will be on the hook for a huge bill.
prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.
life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!. Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!

surgery done in Duluth, MN
LMAO.. so Mexico who has world class surgeons wouldn't make it on your "list". Or Cuba for dental surgeries that you can get a crown done painfree for $75... or dental work in Dom Rep for a 1/5th of what it costs here.
Standards are not that high here.. but perhaps you've never travelled to know that standards are very high in other countries too
