Who Does the Weighing
When I met with Dr. Hagen a few weeks ago he weighed me and I was a 40 BMI right on. Booked me for a scope and made an appt with Dr. Glazer. I'm going to see the NUT, SW, and RN next week. Will they weigh me again? What if I'm under 40 now? Who does the weighing? They encourage you to start measuring foods and such, which I'm doing and I'm afraid I've lost weight. It doesn't seem fair if they denied surgery now after encouraging to be more conscious of food intake. Just worried.
I am a bit over 40 also and I have lost a couple as I am trying to chew slow and learn the eating techniques they are teaching me. So I was also wondering what if my BMI goes down!?!?
I do not think they would. Going to see the Dr and willing to go through all this alone is enough to show you believe you need extra help with losing the weight.
Hoping for the best!! I am sure you will be fine and do great!

I spoke with a girl who started the process at the low end of the BMI with co-mobilities she has now met with the surgeon and he will not do the WLS on her because she fell below the BMI even though she has co-mobitities.
This girl has gone all through this process listened to what they tell you to do to get ready for after WLS and lost weight in the process I felt bad for her cus she was crying because now they will not do WLS on her. They have told her she can reapply in 6 months but she can try and lose more on her own as she has shown she can do it.
I guess they say people that under under the BMI it is not safe to do this surgery as there could be a risk that you can end up being extremely underweight.
I felt so bad for her she was in tears I also have a friend and she is considered lightweight and I have been telling her do not lose any weight during the process because if your BMI falls below they could deny you and she was there and heard this girl and was also upset.
So the moral is if you are considered lightweight try and not lose any weight cus there could just be that possibility. During my process I actually gained 20 lbs. and I was no lightweight.

I'm hoping I'll be fine next week for weight but I will definitely lose weight when I go on Opti. I would definitely be underweight then. They know you are going to lose weight on Opti. There's no way they would be cruel enough to let you go through everything, book surgery and then cancel on you. I would flip! I'm seeking a revision and was not a 40 when I originally had surgery and had no co-morbidities then or now. You would think Dr. Hagen would not be doing a scope on me or sending me to Dr. Glazer if he wasn't going to go forward with the surgery.
Do you know which Dr. she had?
Oh you doing revision that might be totally different I just know what the girl told me last night she was weighed at her surgeons appt. so she would not have been Opti. I guess maybe surgeon thought she was already below and if she lost on Opti then she would be really below. Yes if they doing scopes and that then they will be proceeding.
Her surgeon was out of TWH she is not the first I heard this happen to as I think while back there was somebody on board who said thing happened to them.
We also told her to ask for second opinion.

I started off this process with a bmi of 39, just under plus i have other health issues, I picked up my opti the other day. At my first appointment they weighed me and calculated my bmi, I have been weighed since then and have lost weight but they never recalculated my bmi again. I wonder if its the "other health issues" that still make me a candidate.

At our orientation back in Nov 2011 we were told that they went from the weight of that day---so if you lost weight that was showing you are very serious about this process- I wonder if the criteria has changed- it really doesn't seem fair if you qualified to start the process- followed through and lost some weight then were denied.. I was a light weight at the time and lost about 13 pounds before Opti- this did not seem to affect the process as I did have the surgery...just sayin'
I agree it doesn't seem fair but I guess it depends on how much you actually lose during the process maybe she just lost too much because she didn't look that overweight to me so maybe she just lost too much.
I know it has happened so that's why I tell light weights not to lose to much because it can happen.
