Starting a New Weekly Thread...Find Your Inner Ninja
I am starting a new weekly thread which I am entitling "Find Your Inner Ninja" !!!! My kids love the song by Classified called "Inner Ninja". It's on my running playlist, and every time it comes on, I always feel empowered to find my inner strength and to keep going....hence the name of our new thread :o)
The purpose of the thread is going to be (for those who are interested), to begin to work through our emotional connections to food. We share everyday about following the rules, and all the logistics of the RNY, Gastric sleeve and gastric banding, etc..... We even advise each other to seek out help from our clinics and from professionals to try and figure out WHY we have such strong emotional connections to food. WHY do we rarely work through these emotions together? This subject applies to everyone: people who are thinking about having surgery, people waiting to have surgery, people who have recently had surgery, and people who are working on maintenance. This is something I really need to work out for myself. At the beginning, I was SURE, I had dealt with my food issues, but now, 2.4 years out, I am dealing with a lot of my food demons, and they are winning far too often. Clearly, I still have still very many emotional connections to food which I have not figured out.
I just started reading what I think seems like a really good book about emotional eating. It's by Geneen Roth, and it's called "Breaking Free From Emotional Eating". It also has a companion workbook which I have started working through, called "Why Weight". They are both available at Chapters if anyone would like to pick them up. I'd like to create a weekly post to discuss some of the most important issues from these two books. I realize that some of the questions will be quite personal or may feel a bit silly or pointless, and not everyone is willing to bear their souls online to a group of people they do not know, and that's okay. Some people might want to read and keep their own personal journal. Some might like to pick up the book and work through it. Still others might want to share on the thread. I promise to attack every question as honestly as possible. I actually find it cathartic to share my feelings to a group of people who share a common experience, and I know you'll all still love me no matter what I confess.....right?!
Look for a thread at the beginning of each week titled "Find Your Inner Ninja", and through the week, if anything else pops up, I will add a related thread. Hopefully, together we can gain some perspective on the WHY of our issues with food.

Hi Marny,
That sounds like a good book. I am going to check it out as well. The author sounds familiar to me, I think she did another book about emotional eating. Count me in to contributing to the thread, and love the title....
I have been doing very well since our meeting on Tuesday, switched to decaf and have been very aware of what i am putting in my mouth.
BTW, I received my package of quest bars directly from Quest and they are so fresh! I tried a new one called Banana Nut Muffin and it was awesome...They also gave me a free one in a chocolate chip cookie dough which looks awesome. I might have to continue to order from them, as it is so fresh....Really makes a difference.
Chat later...Liz
Great to hear that you are doing well this week. Me too actually. I loved our little meeting and really came away with some new motivation. I have been back on track with water and vitamins everyday since! Woot! Woot!
Yummy Quest bars. I am going to have to track down the banana muffin and the cookie dough ones!
