Co-Morbidities Question

I am pre-op 5'11" and my BMI sits right at 40.4 (on a good day ;). I work-out a fair bit (3x a week) and esp. when I do yoga it is hard for me to do all of the poses. I would like to shed some weight so I feel better and have my first apts in June. Its a catch 22 because I am afraid to go under 40 (if I could get to 24 BMI on my own I would) incase they decide that I do not meet the qualifications.

SO...my question to all you brilliant people, what are the 'official' co-morbidities? I have read a ton of literature and it seems like there is not a consensus about some 'co-morbidities'.

So I have: Depression, a fatty liver (surprise, surprise) and sleep apnea. Below is the Ontario Bariatric Networks conditions..., is this also their list of co-morbidities?

Thanks everyone, have a wonderful rainy day! :)

Sleep apnea should definitely qualify you - not sure about depression or fatty liver, though.  I've also heard that they base it on referral weight, so if you're over 40 BMI when referred, you should be okay.

Good luck to you!

depression, i don't believe, is one of the "accepted" co morbidiites. not sure about the liver, either.

I suffered from depression preop, and was fully expecting it to lift after surgery. It did, for a while, and i was off medication for a while, but had to restart it about a year after surgery.

Thanks everyone...looks like my one main co-morbidity is sleep apnea. I have not been weighed in the program so I'm nervous.

arthritis is a big one together with all that other people posted.  - being on for ex. Celebrex "can" be one. (sometimes they will ask you to try different pain meds) - sometimes they accepts fibromyalgia (sometimes not).

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
