Carbonated Drinks

I agree that I am not  very comfortable posting questions here. Especially when there are so many negative comments directed at people who "fly" through the process. I would be really surprised if those posters would turn down the opportunity to speed up their own journey if given the opportunity. Sour grapes.

My feelings exactly. I'm sorry if your journey is taking too long but don't take it out on others. Keep your negative feelings to yourself. This is supposed to be a place of support. I'm not saying that people shouldn't voice their opinions, just be aware of what your saying before you say it.  Thanks Kayak.  I hope your journey is moving along at a good clip.

I left this site for a while after dealing with the exact same question and type of responses.

I just had my one year follow up and was told that the issue with caffeine and carbonation is that there are no studies to show what the upper limit is but if you start having side effects such as ulcers/acid reflex/etc. then to cut out carbonation/caffeine.

Why am I sharing this? Because this thread is full of incorrect information.  Carbonation will not stretch your pouch. If you are consuming enough calcium along with your vitamins you won't have calcium issues.  If you drink enough water you won't gain weight from the sodium in diet drinks.

In terms of aspartame, crystal light/mio/etc. is just as bad as diet drinks.

One more thing.. caffeine is addictive since you have bad side effects when you remove that stimulant.  Would those people going on about how bad carbonated drinks, would you stop having coffee since caffeine has much worse side effects?

Thanks Katie. I started another thread on this same topic a few days ago.  I went for my one month follow up with my surgeon and asked if I could drink Perrier. He said yes as long as I tolerated. Our literature from HRRH lists carbonated drinks as something that may not be tolerated along with foods such as steak, pork, lettuce, mushrooms, etc.  Nowhere does it say carbonated beverages are forbidden yet people are still giving me flack.  It would say forbidden in the literature if it was and not listed as may not be tolerated if we couldn't have it.  Read the friggin literature. At least this is what the HRRH booklets say. I've decided to not bother with this site anymore. I've got more issues to concentrate on then take flack from people making me sound like the devil for daring to drink some Perrier when the surgeon and the literature says its ok.  Whatever, I give up. Thanks for your positive response.  Good luck to you on your continued journey.
