Welcome to OH! you can learn a lot from the excellent people on this forum. If you're on facebook, there are quite a few support groups there as well.

It's perfectly normal to be nervous, this is a life changing thing, and its wonderful and scary at the same time.

I know what you mean about wanting the weight off NOW, but try to learn patience. It will be your biggest friend.

Some things you may want to do some research on is common complications (not to scare you, but you should be informed).

Also the 'side effects' of the surgery, for example hair loss.

Search for information about "stalls". (there's a "search" button at the upper right hand of the page, type in what you want to know, and follow the links)

You need to know (and be committed) to taking vitamins for the rest of your life.

Know that this surgery will not "fix" your eating habits. It fixes the mechanics, but not where the real problem is, in your head. Why you eat. Try to do some soul searching about that and figure out some strategies to deal with whatever your problems are (grazing, binging, emotional eating, etc)

Good luck in your journey!

SO, I emailed them and they responded ALREADY!! But sadly they don't have me assigned yet, she said it looks like they haven't processed my referral yet.

I called my doctor office to confirm that they faxed the referral. His receptionist said it was faxed over the evening of April 22.

So I will give it another week and fingers crossed. I want this started. LOL.

Thanks Monica. I have been reading up on the complications. I take vit pretty regular right now. Hair lost.. not a fan of that idea and will do everything in my power to prevent that.

Im hoping to get Vertical Sleeve.

Do anyone know what makes your qualified for RnY or VSG?

I can't give you much help in the way of info since I'm in Texas    so I don't know much about how the WLS process is in Canada, BUT I can say hello   and welcome and good luck on your journey!

first of all, take it as it comes, sure you may get impatient at the process, but if you take that time to read EVERYTHING you possibly can you will have a better foundation for post-surgery and the struggles that that will bring..and yes it does...it is a lifelong adjustment and change and not everyone is successful.

I am 4 years post-op..and I struggle on a daily basis, old habits try to creep back in..and on occasion I try to push the boundaries, which ends up kicking me back.

At this point in time..start making some positive changes of your own, eliminate pop or high caloric foods if that is part of your regular buying habits.  Don't drink soda with ANY meal...actually cutting it completely out, will be of benefit as carbonated beverages can't be consumed after RNY surgery.

This surgery is NOT a quick fix...and as much as  you want "the weight to be gone", you should prepare yourself that the weights loss and SUCCESS of the surgery lies soley on your shoulders.

The surgeon will do their part and then the rest is up to you.

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!

Thank you, great advice

Im reading everything I can get my hands on.

I started therapy a couple of years ago because I wanted to start dealing with some of my issued.

I am in the best mental health state of my adult life. I have a strong supporting network of friends around me.

I have started to make changes in food choices. I have started to reduce pop intake. ( yes I was scared of that  cause Im addicted to Diet coke) But I quit smoking 4 yrs ago so Im sure I can quit this.

Have started to eat on smaller plates, drinking water, chewing food longer.  Taking vitamins. Looking for a juicer so I can start juicing and getting used to getting vitamins from natural sources, without having to eat them.

Did some research on protein drinks and found one sold in GNC in US that is clear and has 40g of protein in a 20oz bottle.  Have plans to make the road trip to buffalo to buy some cases to help supplement my protein intake.

This IS NOT a quick fix. Its a tool for me to use to get a head start, a fighting chance to lose 200lbs. I dont just want to be thin,

I want to be health
