Carbonated Beverages...Again

Ok, so the last time I dared to ask if it would be ok to drink Perrier water, which is naturally carbonated, I got ripped a new one by several people on here.  People made comments like I should not have had this surgery without knowing that carbonated beverages were not allowed EVER.  I did mention that I would not have one until I saw my surgeon and asked him.  Well.. I saw him today and asked him if its ok to have Perrier. He said YES.  As long as the tummy tolerates it, drink away.  We are allowed to drink carbonated beverages if they are tolerated.  Just wanted everyone to know this.  Even in our one month follow up class today they showed a list of things we may no longer tolerate and carbonated beverages is one of them along with pasta, rice, and other foods.  It's not that we cannot drink them, it's that we may not tolerate them like we may not tolerate certain foods anymore. Just wanted to clarify for others.

Sylvie you were smart to ask  your surgeon-people have their own "views" on here and will say things that aren't always right.  I had a couple of sips of diet coke on the plane last week-didn't taste bad but wasn't great.  Just wanted to try it.  Haven't had any since but I know if I want some I can have a bit.  I was never addicted to it like some people are so it's not a trigger for me.  Glad you are doing well!  Good luck on the rest of your journey!

Thank you. I wonder how many apologies I'll see. Zero I'm sure.  I know for the most part people are trying to be helpful but no need to be nasty especially when you don't know what you're talking about. I also now different centres have different criteria but I'll stick to what my surgeon says. I'm sure he knows best.

Why should anybody apologize to you?  Lots of the replies were from people that went to the same centre as you and they were told never.  I went to St. Joe's Toronto which is in network with HRRH and the literature says never.  If your surgeon says it's okay then go for it but don't be surprised if your dietitian is not of the same thinking as the surgeon.  As for who knows best, I think it's a very individual thing, some surgeons have no idea of what post op life is even like.

Just an FYI, these types of threads with the hateful comments often get yanked since they break OH's Terms of Service.

The apologies should be forthcoming due to the personal attacks that Sylvia took. There were several ridiculous comments on the OP that she didn't "deserve" surgery or wasn't prepared because she asked whether Perrier was tolerable.

Sharing info and centre differences is one thing, pretending to be "holier than thou" is something entirely different.

I read the original thread and there was one poster that asked her why she didn't ask the question prior to surgery and she even said she apologized if it came across as rude so she already received the apology from the one and only person that questioned her  Nobody attacked her, they shared what they were told including patients from the same clinic.  As for holier than thou, there seems to be a bit of that in this thread.  "Way to give it to the haters", that is pure class.

Oh Sylive, thank-you so much for this post today. I have had the day from hell and drove home having some serious buyers remorse, moody as hell ( which I'm sure is the hormone thing kicking in combined with my overall increasing fear of eating anything ). Reading your post brought the first smile to my face today!!

Good for you for asking! You are right most would not apologize to you cause it's a lot harder for some to admit they might have been wrong. But no matter what you found out the answer form the best source. Everyone everywhere will always have an opinion but its up to you to determin what information you'll take and what you'll pass on. We are all here ( I hope) to better ourselves and help each other out.
Don't think I told you anything about it but ill apologize for all the ones who were quick to react instead of saying they were told ...... But since all clinics are different ask yours to make sure.

By the way congrats on the weight loss!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to see if I can tolerate Diet Coke, if I can have like a few sips a week even for a treat. I know 2 people who have half of one every few days and they stick to their diet are are doing great.

Perrier sounds yummy!! That would be a great reward treat with no guilt after!!!!

Way to show these "OBESITY HELP KNOW IT ALLS" that they do not know everything, nor should judge.

:P
