New member question :)

Hi Everybody :) After a lot of back and forth (and trying every diet under the sun) I finally went to my family dr this morning and asked him to send in a referral for surgery. I just turned 30 in Feb and am seriously ready to get my life started - this weight has been holding me back for 10 years now. Anyway, my question is for those in the Milton/Brampton/Mississauga North area - what hospital were you referred to? I live in Georgetown and my Mom is positive I'll be going to Guelph (since it's geographically closer than Toronto), but I've heard that the wait times there are lengthy. Was anyone in Brampton/Milton referred to a Toronto hospital? From doing a bit of reading on this forum it seems like some people have gone through the entire process from referral to surgery in less than a year, even in six months, and for others it's taken quite a bit longer than that. I am so excited to get this ball rolling, I really hope I'm not looking at a year + wait!

If you enter the first part of your postal code here, it will tell you which centre your referral will be sent to. http://www.bariatricregistry.ca/Ontario%20Bariatric%20Registry%20Referral%20Search.aspx I suspect you'll be sent to Toronto Western.

Ohhh, I see - I've looked at that page about three times before posting here, but do you think I could read that you just need the first part of your postal code? Duh :p Thank you :) You're right - it's Toronto Western.

Thank you!! I'm spending part of this morning reading as far back as I can in the forum, so hopefully that will give me some insight :)

I am from Brampton and all my appointments are thru Toronto Western Hospital.  Not sure what will happen being from Georgetown.  Follow up with your referral.  My Dr put my referral in and after a year of no word from anyone re-sent the referral.  After he re-sent it I heard from them in about 3 weeks.  Follow up, follow up, follow up.  It is so easy to get lost in the system.  Good luck with everything and welcome :)

Looks like I'm in the same boat - Toronto Western. Thanks for the heads up about following up, I will definitely do that!! I'm so excited that I've finally made the decision, I think if I don't hear from them in about two weeks I'll definitely be calling. My doctor is also pretty good about making sure referrals are accepted and responded to, so fingers crossed between the two of us it will be a quick process :)
