Referred to HRRH

So I just receieved an email saying I was referred to HRRH and I should be recieiving a phone call from them to set up appointments.

What does anyone have to say about HRRH?

Is it possible to have your referral moved? HRRH is completely out of my way, opposite side of the city, not TTC friendly. I dont drive and if I did take TTC it would take me over an hour to get there. My ability to walk or stand isnt great.

I am feeling disappointment. Of course I get referred to the location that is the greatest distance from me. Heck I would walk to East General, even be at St mikes or Western within 20-35 min.

I know people are probably saying Im being whining, but Im doing this alone. I dont have any help, no one to give me a lift.  Hell it hard to walk for me someday.  I was hoping it would be at least my side of town, so I wouldnt have to lose full days of work for appointments.

Im not sure how this works? Will I have to go there for all my appointments? or is that just the place I will have the surgrey?

I have a cousin that is a nurse there and Im estranged from that side of the family. I emotionally cant handle the idea of having her possible be one of my nurses.

How messed up is this!! I get referred to the one place I was praying I wouldn't be referred to. The place that is the biggest distance. The place the my ONLY relative in this province works at I am estranged from.

I just wanna cry

I had my surgery there and I am 3 hours away.....yes you have to have all your appointments there.....I found them to be very friendly and helpful....you have to do what's best for you....I would never choose a different hospital.

WMandalious,

I understand that the TTC will be long (grew up in Toronto). I myself live in London Ont and have to drive over 2 hours to Windsor for each appointment but it is worth it. Humber seems like (from what everyone says here) a great hospital with great staff. If by chance (small chance) you get your "estranged " family member as a nurse....just request another because of confidentiality concerns. Most would understand. Humber also seems to have a faster time line that other places so you are actually fortunate to be going there.

This will all be worth it in the long run...

Do you have access to paratrans if you have mobility issues? They are very helpful. You can also express these concerns with your social worker (bariatric hospital)  and maybe she can help you.

We are all here for you and are now part of your support team.

Tara :)

Thanks Tara

I dont qualify for Wheel Trans. So its the regular TTC for me.  Which is just lovely cause its not made to fit average people more less super obese people like me.  Just the thought of it gives me anxiety. You probably are right about not having my cousin be my nurse. Just the thought of it makes me sick tho. I dont go to the west end of town because I dont want to chance bumping into her. Just because someone is in nurse doesnt mean they are nice or understanding of weight issues.  Trust me. ..

I lived with her for a short time of first coming to the city, having my panties pinned up in the kitchen with friends joking about the size of it.  Having her boyfriend actually put a lock on the fridge with a note saying " No food for fatty " Being told that I wasnt allowed to sit on any of the patio furniture cause they didnt want it to break... etc etc.

Please lord dont let me go to Church site... please

Thank Tania

3 hrs drive is nuts, and I m sure I sounds like a spoiled brat complaining about the distance for me.

I think my main anxiety is encountering my cousin while I'm there. There is a good reason why I don't have anything to do with her and her side of the family and her knowing I'm there for a weight lost surgery that Im trying to keep somewhat private. Well, just just say it wont be private anymore and I will once again be made the laughing stock of the family.

What site do you have to got to? I know HRRH has 3 sites, I know she was last stationed at Church site.

with my location i had the option to choose what hopsital i went to - Ottawa or Humber - I chose humber even though it is a 3 hour drive from me. I doubt someone who doesnt understand weight issues would be a nurse in a baratric ward/room. Doesnt seem like they would last very long or have a job very long

Once you talk to the social worker about your anxiety and travel issues, maybe they can transfer your case to a closer hospital....worth a try.  Good luck

over an hour to get there by TTC? that is nothing... takes me an hour by bus as well and I live in the city where my assessment Centre is and it is not a metropolitan. THEN i had to drive 4 hours (or an hour plane ride) to get to Toronto for surgery.. an hour by TTC is nothing to squack at in my opinion at least
