Referred to HRRH
Has I previously stated I know its I will sounds like Im whiny or a spoiled brat about the distance. I do have mobility issues that dont help the situation and I have appeal and re submitting information for wheel trans. I also have anxiety issues that I am trying to deal with in general.
But also you can see my anxiety isnt only about the distance, actually if you read the entire thread you would see that it really is the least of it.
But thanks anyway for your thoughts on my squawking. Im glad you can travel that distance without having an emotional break down, puking, shaking and crying. Hopefully some day I will be able to travel without that type of reaction.
Cheers.
I'd definitely call HRRH, tell them you have mobility issues but haven't previously qualified for transportation (Wheel Trans I think you said it was?) and ask if they know of any other options for you. I'm sure they will have come across patients in your situation before, and maybe they know of volunteer drivers or some other transportation system in the city that helps people get to medical appointments. I'd also talk to your GP's office and see if they know of any transportation services for people with mobility issues. The other option is to transfer hospitals of course, but that could delay the process and from what I've heard HRRH is a great hospital, great staff, and speedy timeline! :)
You could also get in touch with CMHA - I don't know how it works in Toronto but the CMHA in my town does a lot of great stuff in helping people get to medical appointments when they have anxiety, especially when the appointment is for something that is going to help you in your physical as well as mental health!
Since it looks like its based out of finch site my chances of since my cousin are a lot lower ; thank god.
I will talk to them and see if I can try and get most of the appointments on the same day. Instead of making numerous trips.
I hear some people having a bunch on one day, but others have them months apart.. So many different variables I guess
I want the shorter time line.. I may just suck it up and take a taxi and let my credit card feel it.
This needs to happen
The decision on where you go for wls is based on your postal code, but it sounds like you would be best suited for wls thru StMikes? Would a call to the barictric registry be an idea? Perhaps explain your distance to HRRH and that StMikes is a better option for you. It's worth a shot?
Good luck
Annette
Wheel Trans does not require a "qualification", the key is too have a "Assistive Device" such as a CANE for instance for balance would be a reason in itself. Just call wheel trans customer service and let them know that you would like to be a customer, they will give you an appointment and a location, go and explain your mobility issues etc...and they will take it from there. Trust me. You don't require doctors or anything. Just be honest about your mobility concerns. "GET A CANE" if you don't have one. It is for balance.
Interesting. I called them the end of 2012 and they said flat out I didnt meet their requirements.
I will try again. My doctor was willing to write a letter on my behalf also.
Hi and welcome to the board. I was initially referred to Toronto Western Hospital (TWH) however Humber was closer to me and also closer to my support. I asked for and received a transfer.
what you need to do if you truly don't want to be at Humber, call them and ask for a transfer to TWH. Once TWH approves the transfer then you are good to go. Explain your mobility issues and closeness to TWH. Now, Humber is faster sometimes however you always have the chance of getting a surgeon that operates out of Stl Joe's Toronto. That will increase your wait time. It's ultimately up to you but you do have the power to change things.
Oh, and if you do decide to transfer, followup two weeks later at the other site to make sure that they have your info. Mine got "stuck" in never-never land.
Hello, I understand what you're saying... Beside your mobility problem, anxiety makes everything worse... I suffer from the same... And some people don't understand what anxiety makes to people.
I think you should call your clinic and explain your situation... I think they'll be able to help you out...
Good Luck!
Thanks, nice to hear someone get the anxiety thing.
I dont think the lady previous in thread got it, just thought I was whining about not wanting to travel.
Then again, maybe I didnt explain it clearly enough.
Anyways. I will just wait to get an appointment date and take it from there. Deep breathing and probably a cab. lol.
