Hi all,

I am just about 5 weeks post op...boy where has the time gone!!

I am feeling like my upper abdomen is bruised....weird that it has just started to feel bruised......when stretching upward it feels like ribs are bruised on both sides. I know this was major surgery, but why just feeling it know?

Confused.....

Just a guess, Joanne, based on my own recent experience.  At five weeks out, you've been using different muscles from what you would normally do to move yourself in and out of bed, etc., guarding and protecting your incisions.   I know I was stiff and sore as a result of hoisting myself around, while trying not to hurt myself.   Something that really helped with that feeling was being able to get in to the pool (all incisions healed and cleared by the medical people) and do gentle, supported stretching.

As I said, a guess, my thoughts only.   Others may suggest something else and, as usual, YMMV.

The usual caution applies -- don't get medical advice here -- if in doubt, check with your Centre/PCP.

Hi Chippy

That makes all the sense in the world..yeah it feels muscular, like I have done 50 sit up with out actually doing them of course. I have my first follow up on the 12th so if it continues or changes I will be able to ask them. But you are probably right...

i was going to say the same as chipmunk. You're using different accessory muscles. If it gets worse, or you just don't feel "right" about it, please call your WLS centre.
