I was given a medical note for 4 weeks.  I then added 4 weeks of holidays.  Best decision I made.

Thanks Judy.
I think I will probably end up using entire 8 weeks.

I believe 6 weeks is standard for most major surgeries. I hear of some people going back after two weeks to a desk job.

I couldn't fathom having done that. I needed the time, and I think our bodies do as well.

Surgeon and family physician had recommended and written 4 to 6 weeks off work.  I didn't take anytime off before surgery although I could have.  My logic was to keep busy to keep my mind off of opti.

I  felt good enough physically to go back to work in the 3 rd week. But decided to give myself more time. Didn't start real food until week 5 and I didn't want to experiment at work as to what I could tolerate.  So I went back to work after 5 weeks once it was clear I knew what I could tolerate and pack for work.

I also have great short term disability benefits at work. So I was paid 100% and my pay cheques never missed a beat. I work for an insurance company who issues the cheques so I would hope they are efficient at paying claims. But I am a long termer at work with nearly 27 years. New people to the company only get 75% of their pay.

that reminds me ...it's not only the physical time you need off but the mental. Trying to get in all the protein and liquids and figure things out. It's like a job in itself.

That's is part of what I was worried about.

I figured the 8 weeks would be healing, working hard on developing healthy patterns and habits, preparing myself to go back to work w a healthy regular schedule under my belt.

I won't be sleeping in and laying around. I'm thinking I will wake up wk 3- 8 the time I would for work.

Need to use the time smart!
