Curbing the impulse to eat it all...
One final comment for you poutine fiends. The only food that continues to give me grief is french fries. I believe its because they're all made from potato mash these days and shaped in an injector. As much as I loved them before surgery, they are an absolute no-no for me after. As soon as I get three or four fries in me, they start to swell and completely shut me down. It is the only food that makes me so uncomfortable I wish I never sampled it.
So get your poutine fix in now, because trust me, you'll probably never appreciate them again.
And that's not a bad thing either.

a month or so before my RNY I told my husband I was going to eat what I wanted when I wanted and I asked him not to say anything. He didn't . I ate at every fast food place you could image, bought a box of wagon wheels at the store and everything I thought I wouldn't be able to eat again. I had a "goodbye party".
I think centres requiring you to lose weight before is stupid torture. It's like telling an alcoholic they won't receive help unless they stop drinking. As for it proving that you are determined and will be able to handle the guidelines- B.S. If we could do it on our own why the heck would we be having surgery?
I'm almost two years out now and what I didn't understand before surgery is that I would be able to eat anything and everything again IF I choose to do so. Sometimes I wish I couldn't eat junk.
It is hard the first while after surgery. You can't eat those things, or certainly shouldn't. Yes there was a sense of loss. But when you lose 100 pounds you feel so awesoem you never want to go back so you watch what you eat.
The first 6 months you can eat basically anything and still lose but you are tricking yourself into believing it will be that way forever. It won't. Take that first year, get the junk out, develop good habits and get to goal.
I completely agree with your entire post!

Thanks for this. I kind of know what you mean. About ten years ago I lost 180lbs because I developed Crohn's disease. Due to an emergency I had to have surgery, which basically put me in remission. I was able to eat anything I wanted again, and because I couldn't do any exercise (it was open surgery) for four months, I packed on the pounds extremely quickly. Probably about 60 in the first six months. It was downhill from there. I guess you could say that was a preparation for knowing that you are never invincible to gaining weight.
I start my Opti this Thursday and i have cut back on my carbs already, no diet pop since orientation, and no more coffee. Baby steps for me lol. This last weekend i wanted to have a steak dinner with baked potatos mushrooms the works. I made it last night and i couldnt even eat half of it.. It didnt even appeal to me. It must have been that little voice saying , do you really want this .. And do you really NEED this. I am looking forward to opti and starting this journey. Good Luck to you.. Krista..
Just clarifying my buffet farewell....I am cheap. No way I am going to pay for food I can't eat..LOL Chinese food, yes..buffet no.
Robyn...lol...I have been googling recipes like a mad fiend and having a blast with it. Google "bariatric diet recipes pinterest". A lot of people have already done the sifting and have pinned some really great ideas. The cauliflower potato thing looked like to much work too me. I am also dying for a poached egg and tuna.
