To the HRRH peeps ~ Dr Glazer
Asks you if you know the risks etc, does an EKG, goes over your health history, orders further testing if he feels there is a need. It's a very easy meeting, great guy, very down to earth, nothing to worry about at all.
Im meeting my GP tonight and gonna ask him for a copy of my lastest blood work so I can take into the nurse on 31. Blood work was done the June 8th.
Dr Glazer is on Sept 3rd and Second app with Dr Hagen in on Sept 16th. I am all lined up and hopefully be buying OPTI on Sept 16th.

I have seen him twice so far, and I have another appointment Thursday. The first time I saw him was quick. It didn't feel like we did a lot of talking, but that's because his nurse asks most of the questions before you see him, and does blood pressure etc. He asks you a few questions health wise and decides if you need a sleep test (and possibly other tests). FYI he sits on a giant ball instead of a chair, lol. You will also get a quick EKG....which is them putting little sticky pads all over your chest and recording your heart for like 2 minutes.
For me, he ordered a sleep test....so a few weeks later I had to go back and see him again to get the results. I saw him, we discussed the results and he ordered a second related test, which is why I am going to see him Thursday to get the results. However....these tests did NOT slow down or delay my surgery. At the second appointment with him, he told me I could go ahead and book an appointment with my surgeon to get my surgery date. Most of the preliminary work is done with the RN, social worker and dietician. When you see him you may feel rushed, or like he didn't really ask you very much...but it's not because he doesn't care, it's because he does most of his "studying" of your case before he even see's you and it is all already in your file etc. He is nice, I like him so far =)
Yup, sounds like your on a roll. Your GP blood work isn't as detailed as what Glazer has you do though, but bring along whatever things you have, it may help right?
I dont snore or have any sleeping problems. Are those the only reasons he issues Sleep studies?
I grind my teeth at night... my ex's have always said they would prefer if I snored. hehe

I don't snore either or have sleeping problems....he debated for a second one whether he was going to give me one or not, and then opted to be safe and give me ne just incase. As it turns out I have mild sleep apnea, but when I am dreaming it goes to severe and my oxygen drops below 88% (I also grind my teeth too...actually BROKE a tooth like that, lol). SOOO he said it is not the apnea that concerns him it's the oxygen. I had to do a second test at home where I wore an oxygen thingy on my finger as I slept and it recorded my oxygen levels for 3 nights, and I will be discussing those results on Thursday.
I don't think sleep problems are the only reason for the test. The nurse there also measured my neck, and felt my throat & thyroid by hand. I think if it's a certain size or it feels big, it adds to the requirement for a sleep study.....but you know.....at first I was HORRIFIED at the thought of having to wear one of these mask things on my face when sleeping if I had to get a CPAP machine, but I have since come around a little in my head about it. A lot of people who have worn them said they never realized the massive difference in how they feel during the day - rested and energetic etc. So who knows, if I HAVE to wear one, I will, and maybe I will feel better and stronger for the surgery? Anyway, good luck, and let us know how it works out for you =)
All of this is so darn interesting huh. Why they do some things for others and not for others.
It will be interesting to see how things go.
The CPAP machine. Who pays for that? Covered by OHIP?
Where do you go for the sleep studies?
Sorry, I know I have so many questions.

I believe it is mostly covered by OHIP if not completely covered...but I know there are some little upgrades you can do and stuff....like which kind of face mask you get etc...and you have the option of paying out of pocket for the upgrades but still having it mostly covered by ohip.
And don't apologize for asking questions....for every question you ask, there are probably 20 other people out there wondering the same thing =)
