Yo-Yo-ing like crazy!

I finally broke into the 160s! I haven't been in the 160s since I was in grade 6!

I have been playing with 167-170 ever since the first week of June though! I absolutely fell in love with being relatively small during the summer. Love going out to patios, flirting with boys I just meet at bars, going out with friends. My eating was still on track, I just skipped the gym a lot to lie outside and tan, and drank more wine.

So I stopped and got serious again. The last 3 weeks I have been really strict but am still yo-yo ing. I cut my calories to 1000 a day and lost 2.5 lbs that week. I decided to up my calories to 1100 a day last week and gained 2.4lbs this morning. Which makes no sense! If anything, upping my calories would cause me to lose less, or maintain. Does this mean my body will gain weight on 1100 calories? I'm still in the malabsorption stage (1.5 years post op) so imagine how little i'll have to eat when I'm out of that stage!

I upped my running (went for a 40min jog yesterday, huge NSV for me), hitting the gym an extra day a week, cutting out carbs after lunch, eating veggies with hummus as an afternoon snack as opposed to a protein bar. I feel like I am doing awesome, but am still yo-yoing. I feel those old feelings of resentment and "f** it, it's not working anyway" thoughts creeping in.

I love where I am physically and spiritually but am afraid I'm on my way back to 320lbs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Congrats on your current success!  Please remember that your body will weigh different weights for a whole variety of reasons.  Perhaps it had been too hot, perhaps you consumed too much sodium, perhaps it is near TOM.....perhaps the scale had an evil plot to mess with your head?

I am past the 18 month mark and I am still losing weight.  I am not losing quickly, and have not been losing quickly since January this year.  Since this is a lifetime effort, and not just until a magic number appears on the scale, I am not worried about how slowly this occurs.

Good luck !

I'm in no rush either.

I didn't get to 300lbs overnight, it started somewhere, it started with gaining a few pounds here and there. I want to catch it before I fall on the slippery slope, ya know?

I want to find a groove that's right for my body. I want to find a formula I can stick to. I want to know how much I can eat without gaining, how much will make me lose and how much will make me maintain. I guess it's a lot to ask.lol

I am currently trying to find that magic formula. It does vary according to the reasons mentioned above and bowel movements. I lost a pound having a BM this morning LOL. For me it has to do with the kind of carbs I eat. I still can not eat simple carbs and get most of mine from fruits and veg. I think each of us has to follow what works for them. If you keep a food log look over it and see where you did the best with weight.

Good luck with finding your groove

You look truly amazing!  Hope you feel as good as you look!  (Sorry don't have any diet suggestions as I am pre-op).  That would be a drag only eat 1000 to 1100 the rest of your life! I thought the more muscle you build and the leaner you get the more your body burns?    Seems I have to do that approx. calorie intake at my obese weight to lose weight now!

I was told by my NUT at my one year mark that I would not eat more than 1,000 calories a day....forever. I have my calories set for 1,200, and I do not add more when I exercise. I sometimes eat more, and sometimes eat less, but for now this is what works for me.

My malabsorption stopped around the 18 month mark. I was at goal and maintained, then I decided I wanted to lose 4more pounds to hit the 100 pound mark, and that took a long time. I'm around 2.5 years out now, and maintaining now is hard and keeping my weight where I want it is work work work. I fluctuate 4 pounds a month, (the same ones that I worked super-hard to get off). And i'm good with that.

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

Thank you for the feedback.

No one told me about calories. My centre gave me the "if you eat healthy and ensure protein, then you'll be fine" healthy can be very high in calories. I.e. a quarter cup of nuts and a banana for a snack is healthy, but very very high in calories as opposed to 2tbsp of hummus and some carrots.

I don't eat back calories burned during exercise either. I just don't want to get my body used to low calories now, then when malabsorption stops have to eat even less, u know?

I'm around the 18 month mark, so I guess I'm pretty much out of the malabsoroption stage.
