I had Dr.Penner too and he is AWESOME! He is the lead surgeon for the bariatric team at TWH, and a total genius. Really thorough, and kind and caring... You are in great hands. Literally lol

He is a very good surgeon expect to be at TWH for a bit as the appointment more the waiting time is long.

Just relax you have your list of questions or somebody going with you. I took hubby cus I wanted him to remember the things I couldn't and he was my support so I want him to know what to expect.

Hi there the first meeting is short, he is extremely nice. You don't have to be nervous at all. U might not have him as your surgeon , ask Him how long is the surgery,

Thanks everybody! I am currently sitting in the atrium at TWH as traffic wasn't as bad as I thought so I am early, writing down some of your question suggestions. I appreciate it! Fingers crossed this appointment goes well :D

Any update!!?? Hope you made out well. Did you get your date?? Soooo exciting!  I am meeting Dr.Okrainec this Friday at TWH.

The update is I am having surgery on October 18th! I picked up my Opti yesterday and start on Monday
It was a long wait, I didn't even get seen by the nurse until 11:30, an hour after my scheduled appointment, it was 12:45 when a surgical resident came in to sign consent forms and then at 1 o'clock Dr Penner came in for maybe 45 seconds to shake my hand and say good luck, then waited a bit longer to book my appointment and I left around 1:30 I think. So bring a book or something because it's a long wait! I just about drained my phone battery playing Candy Crush lol, wish I had remembered to bring a book! I heard a lady in the room next to me complaining about the wait but I think it's worth it if you walk away with a surgery date
They also asked me to participate in a research study that I think Dr Ocrainec is running so you might get asked if you want to participate. I said yes without really thinking about the logistics though, because now I have to make an extra trip to Toronto on Monday morning to TEGH to do tests - not looking forward to that! So if you do sign up just remember you will have to make an extra trip and it's about 3 hours of testing. But good luck on Friday, hopefully you come away with a good surgery date :D

Oh Katie, yay! This is so exciting!!! I had hoped you would get a date that isn't far off - wow! Less than a month! You must be thrilled.

 

Man oh man, it gives me hope for my own timeline. My sneak in to the Orientation on Wednesday night was a success, though they were slightly annoyed. LOL. I have my Social Worker appointment this coming Thursday in the morning, but the next scheduled appt with the NP isn't until the middle of January! I'm hoping that when I go in on Thursday morning I can change it to sooner. I would anticipate that over half of the ppl at my orientation won't proceed with the program, just from comments and stuff I overheard. So I think that is where cancellations come in.

So you were able to pick up your Opti?? Where did you go to get it??

Also if you don't mind me asking, what is your starting weight and how many weeks Opti do you have to do?  I'm just over 300 so I'm wondering if I will do 2 weeks or 3 weeks.

Wow, you made it through soooo quickly.  Good for you!!  I hope I get my date on Friday as well.  I'd be happy with an end of October date as I need to arrange time off for my husband to help with the kiddos as they are quite young (5yr old twins and a 1 yr old).
