Surgery Question.
I don't know for sure, and would be curious if this interpretation is correct. I read this;
"In this procedure, the stomach is separated into two sections. The upper part is made into a very small pouch that holds 1 to 2 ounces initially. It is about the size of your thumb. A normal stomach holds 40 to 50 ounces and is roughly the size of a person’s head. The small pouch is at the bottom of the esophagus and is very resistant to stretching. The lower part of the stomach is not removed. Nothing enters it but it does still produce gastric juices, which aids the digestion process by eventually joining with the food in the small intestines. ."
If you need the gastric juices for digestion, you'd still have that part of your stomach with a VSG, so the rest is removed, but for an RNY, you don't so they keep it, and attach it to the intestines where it's needed.
Let us know if the doc says the same thing.

Yes rny = stomach plus pouch, no pyloric valve between pouch/intestines. Malabsorption.
Vsg = partial removal of stomach. Banana shaped one left, you keep pyloric valve. No malabsorption. Bad if you have reflux.
Don't get too hung up on them removing the stomach. I know it seems weird. You are still left with a functioning one.
