I am a nurse in a busy critical care unit and my surgeon said 6 weeks before any patient care.  I was able to do a desk job after 4 weeks and I booked 1 night shift after 5 weeks.  I was tired but felt good.  I didn't do any heavy lifting (my co-workers were very helpful that first night)  At 6 weeks, I am back to full duties and feel great.  Take your time so that you heal well.

I am a psw and i was not allowed to go bac****il 8 weeks. I went in at 4 and asked for a doctor note saying that I could go back to work and I got refused until I was 8 weeks out. Reason why is because of the work and they did not want to see me hurt my insides. Like they said to me if a client went and started to fall you would try and stop it and could hurt yourself. You will have to listen to your doctor.
