2. My calcium is 1000mg and im to get 1500 daily so 1 1/2 doses?

3. I was told not to take my calcium with my vit D but all the calciums i could find have vit D in them, do i still take more vit D a day?

4. Can i take the calcium all at same time? Or do i need to space out the doses?

im soooo confused with the amounts i should take compared to the dosages!!!! Arggggg HELP PLEASE!!! Katherine

I take 2 chewables a day. Wasn't told otherwise by the nurse or dietician.

I would take 2 doses of the calcium. Won't hurt to get more :-)

We take our calcium WITH the vitamin D. It is iron we don't take them with. So we have to space our multi vitamin and calcium 2 hours apart.

Space our your calcium doses. As well. I am taking something every 2 hours.  Multivitamin and b 12,  2 hours later calcium then  multivitamin lastly calcium and vitamin d.

Takes 8 hours to take all the vitamins :-)

Good luck!!

1) I take 2 chewable multivitamins per day

2) don't forget, you will be eating/drinking alot of calcium everyday; I ran into constipation issues early out... I was using the supplements (4x 500mg/day AND eating/drinking calcium) I think the 1000mg will be good

3) I still took D3 as well as the calcium with D in it

4) space out the doses...

What centre are you with?? Didn't they give you a schedule of when to take things?

My daily vitamin intake looks like this:

7am- FeraMax150 (iron) and vitamin C

mid morning- 2x vita-vim chewable multi vitamins, D3, B12 and zinc

(I was taking calcium but I was directed by my centre (twh) and also my family dr, not to because my levels were extremely high... If I have to take it again after my next bloodwork, I will take it in the afternoon and again in the evening)

Leanne.

I never thought about constipation issues with too much calcium. I am taking 1200 my a day plus yogourt cheese strings milk(not every day. But most days) And I have to take senokot every 3 days. I am just over 4 months post op and have probably had a BM on my own like 4 times since surgery. Do you think I should only take 1 calcium a day?

You might want to look into adding some magnesium with your calcium - that may help with the constipation.

Oh really,  I will try that. How many mg do you think I should start with? Would be nice to go more regularly.  I work a week on and a.week off at a time. On my 1 night off through the week I have to take the senokot which means the next day I'm house bound for the most part. If I don't take it then I end up in trouble as I would go from Friday to the following saturday without taking the senokot...which means major trouble!

The "recommended daily dose" to start with is 300mg/day. It may help, it may not, but it couldn't hurt to try it. Maybe get a recommendation from your pharmacist on an appropriate dose for you. Hang in there.

Thank you Karen,  I will talk to the pharmacist and see what they recommend. I don't mind taking the senokot but it would be nice to not have to depend on it at the same time :-)

Great idea. I've found that the pharmacist at the Shopper's I go to isn't too vitamin/mineral savvy as I would hope, so maybe talk to a couple of them. lol

I would supplement 500-1000mg calcium

I am no longer constipated since making these changes! I go by what my lab reports, centre and dr say. I feel mUch better.

If I have too much calcium-y foods, then I start to feel "full", so I monitor everything and adjust accordingly ;-)

I would ask your centre
