Nausea while on Optifast?

I started off well yesterday on Optifast with no issues.

This morning is a whole other deal. I woke up feeling quite sick, nauseous, shaky, just plain yuck.

I got my shake ready and the smell of it made me gag. I don't understand because yesterday I quite liked them. I managed to choke down 1/2 a shake, went back to bed for an hour and then took a shower and am feeling better.

I'm wondering about the aspartame. I NEVER use aspartame.

Anyone else experience this? TIA

Oh no. I'm so sorry to learn this.

I never consumed aspartame either, but didn't have a problem. It's possible the shakes are making you sick. It could be the aspartame, or another ingredient. It's also possible you have an unrelated flu or bug.

I drank all my Opti out of a cup that had a lid and straw. I purposely didn't smell any of them. If you do decide to try again, maybe that's a strategy worth trying.

Unfortunately, your centre will be closed today.

Also, how are you making them? I used 200 ml water, and 200 ml brewed decaf, cold. And ice. Maybe try a different recipe?

I'm sorry i can't be more help. Feel better quickly. ((Hugs))

I'm making it cold with ice. I liked it yesterday with no issues. Today, my stomach is gurgling non stop, I have constant nausea, some diarrhea and the thought of eating or drinking anything turns my stomach. No fever. The shakes have gone but I just feel blah. I've been drinking water so that's good. I'm going to try some tea and see if that helps.

I'll call my clinic tomorrow if this continues.

They can be hard on the stomach for sure. It's going to "clean you out" so to speak. Do you have Benefiber at home? I would add a teaspoon of it to every single shake. That will fix the diarrhea.

Also, do 400 ml of water instead of 300 ml. Make it a bit more liquidy.

See if you can do it. I have my fingers crossed for you. Definitely call your centre tomorrow. ((Hugs))

If you have vanlla flavored or chocolate add a small amount of peppermint extract to the shake. That helped me fight nausea days.

I hope you feel better and it was just a one time thing.

Use your fibre supplement and it will help keep your intestines from letting loose! I pretty much started out the same way but it passes. Believe it or not you will not notice that disgusting smell in a couple of days. Make sure you are drinking your water. Good luck.
