Insomnia

It is almost 5 AM and I still haven't been able to sleep!  This is getting old.  I have had trouble sleeping for many years, but it seems since my surgery to be much worse.  I go to the doctor on the 17th so I will mention it then.  When I went for my first post-op check, the doctor immediately said I was depressed when I said I was having trouble sleeping.  I have had depression in the past, but thankfully, not now.  I wish they wouldn't just immediately assume depression!  If they take that same approach next visit (it is with the nurse pract.) I plan on seeing my PCP about this.  Just passing some time in the middle of the night.

Sorry you are going through this.......it is not pleasant NOT sleeping.  Do you get sleepy, or are you able to fall asleep, then wake up? Or don't you fall asleep? Before WLS and after I had periods of insomnia. I spoke with my PCP and got a script for sleeping meds. I take trazadone and this helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. Hope this problem gets fixed.

I can so relate! Several months ago, the same thing happened to me. Many mornings my hubby would get up at 5 to go to work, and I was still up!!! It was so frustrating! A friend told me she had had the same problem, and her doctor told her to go to WalMart and get a bottle of Melatonin,,about 2 dollars. Its something natural that our body makes. As we age, it makes less, and sometimes we need to supplement it. Well, I went ot the library and got a book on it, and sure enough, it listed all my symptoms. So, I bought some, That was months ago, and now I am sleeping the night through and waking refreshed again. I take 2 about an hour before I want to go to sleep. I sleep the night through, unless the dog needs to go out or I need a potty break, then I fall right back to sleep. There are no side effects or drowsiness the next morning. Just my 2 cents worth, ya might give it a try! Blessings Betsy

Hi  I am on Lexapro for depression and I take regular Ambien every night.  I have taken it for years.  I am asleep within 1/2 of taking it.  They have different dosages and I, personally, never have any side effects. Good luck and I hope you can get this resolved really soon. Jeanne

Once we get that diagnosis of depression the doctors seem to relate every problem to that once again. It is similar when an obese person has a physical complaint. We are told to lose weight and the issue will be resolved.   I hope you get some sleep tonight. Annette

Thanks for the replies!  I will give the Melatonin a try.  I'm so tired, I'm willing to try anything!
