Me again
We're waiting for the 10AM info. Everything packed and at the front door. It'll take us all of 20 minutes to load the car. The hold up will be GIII, he says he ain't going! I did manage to talk him into coming here to ride out the storm, but any further than that, well I just don't know. How do you make a 32 y/o do anything? If I must, I'll turn on the tears, go into hysterics, and let him think his dad needs help controlling the crazy woman 
. It just might work! GIII has a business pass to go from parish to parish, and we need that pass. Maybe we'll knock him out and grab his pass (after all, he and George basically have the same name). See, that's the big deal. If we aren't flooded, which we don't expect to be, we could return in a couple of days. Even if we do have some water in the house and it recedes quickly, the sooner you start tearing out sheet rock and pulling up carpet, the less damage and possibly mold you have to deal with. Now if it's standing water for several weeks like some areas with Katrina, that's a different story and nothing could be salvaged anyway. BUT our mayor, after Katrina refused to let anyone back into the city. Luckily George still had info from when he owned his own business and printed out a pass. We were able to get home in a week. Our side of the river was high and dry, and somebody had to start getting things up and running again. I know you've heard by now that the westbank is expected to flood. True, but they're talking about the low lying areas, Jefferson Parish mostly, and yes, some of Algiers. We are not considered in the flood zone in my neighborhood. We are not close to any canals, well except the mighty Mississippi, which is about 3 - 4 blocks away. Folks if that levee goes, we're all going to go!
I have packed phone numbers of many of you, thanks to Joyce and Floyd and their OFF list, and will be in touch when I can with someone. As I told one OFF sister, I'm going crazy with all the numbers I have - entire family's #s, neighbors, coworkers, OFF family... Car phone charger is packed.
I know I'm rambling - just a tad nervous. I've had a meltdown or two or three today with two neighbors, and one of my sisters. I think I'm allowed under the cir****tances. LOL
This evening our daughter called. She never asks advice - very strong willed and independent. I commend her for that. She's in Eunice, LA, about 45 minutes northwest of Lafayette, LA. She and SIL are trying to decide whether to stay or go.
They do still have their house in Joplin, MO, and could go there. Projected winds for Eunice are 50 - 70. Not bad considering, but what do I tell her. I can't make the decision for her. She said if it weren't for Gabe, they'd definitely stay. She has talked to some of her neighbors. Most stayed for Lilly several years ago, and said it wasn't bad. So, the old timers are staying, but most of the families with small children are leaving. George told her since they have a place to go, he'd suggest they go.
Oh, yes, we have two options. One doesn't seem very good right now. My sister in Mandeville said to come on over. That's on the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. they've always been high and dry. Katrina did drop a couple of trees on her roof, but her house wasn't damaged that badly. New report at 10 PM said expected storm surge on northshore would be in excess of 20 feet. She may flood. Our other option is Jackson, MS. Next door neighbor had a room reserved in Jackson, and another room in Senatoba (SP??), MS. She came over tonight and we transferred her reservation to our name and credit card - Motel 6, Jackson, MS I-55, exit 103. When we can get back closer to home, we have a place to stay with younger son in LaPlace.
Now that I've bored you to tears...
It's almost 1:30, can't sleep. George thank goodness is sleeping since he'll be responsible for the driving or at least most of it. Gee TX slumber party sistas, me thinks me needs a chocolate martini, or a xanax, or something, maybe both! Reminds me I haven't taken my meds yet.
My fingers are having a yack attack!
Guess I'd better try to sleep huh? Will try to touch base in the morning, no promises though OK as I'm sure there will be tons of things we'll find to do...move the TV upstairs, take my two Thomas Kinkaids and trophy redfish off the walls. No matter what you do, there's always something else you find to do.

Under NO cir****tances take that chocolate martini. Funny girl yes, but absolutely no good to George. . . and if stopped you probably would land in a looney bin and that wouldn't help things either! Cops would not believe it was the result of only one martini! (friends, take my word for it. Debbie, our little Church Lady as Candy called her, on a Chocolate Martini, is a sight to behold!) Xanax, sure take one.
Debbie, not making light of this by any means. I am holding you and your family in my thoughts and hoping the decisions are made as early as possible and that the storm settles down and does as little damage as possible. I think of basements and underground shelters with high wind storms or tornados. Absolutely the worst place when dealing with water surges and high water I am sure.

Oh Debbie, I feel your pain.
When the wild fire**** in San Diego you usually (if you've been through them before) have at least a couple of hours to pack the cars and get out. The waiting is the toughest part....not really knowing if you should stay or go, and what will you find when you come back.
Please remember there is always room here for you. Wouldn't take but a minute to clear the guest bedroom of Walk From Obesity cases of snack crackers LOL!
