I figure if nothing else, I will blend up the chili into a sort of soup and eat it that way!  I just do not want to throw up!!!

Jean - glad you are back      Please share with us about the conference.  I want to know what all you learned.

Love your new picture.  You look so happy.  Sorry things are rough with your Mom - there is always so much red tape to go thru with the VA or any government agency.  What about a VA advocate??  DAV??

Take care,
Shelia

Shelia,

Thanks for the compliment on my photo!

I've tried working with the local VA service officer and he hasn't been much help.

Naturally, as soon as you asked me to tell you what I learned at the band conference, my mind went blank.  But here are some odds and ends that I learned from bariatric surgeons who spoke at the conference:

1. Although the band is stitched to the stomach, its position can shift over the course of time - not in a major or harmful way, and not for any pathological reason - it just does.  The stomach is living tissue that expands/contracts to aid digestion, so this makes sense to me.  This kind of shifting can change your experience of restriction.

2.  I had thought that the band's main action was to physically restrict how much food you can eat at one time, but more than one surgeon at the conference said that the pressure of the band around the stomach may stimulate the nerves that feed the hypothalamus (sp?) in the brain, where satiety signals are interpreted.  The presence of the band near the diaphragm may also stimulate these nerves.

See,that crap cheeses me off too! Your mom should get medicaid based on her age alone. More and more, things have gotten worst.
We need to put some fire under that congressman!

Good afternoon Linda and all the other OFFers!

I got up this morning and found another pound gone - I am getting so close to 50 and I feel the excitement building !!!
I watched sweet Mattie this morning so Lori could go to an inservice - then went to water aerobics.  Had to get a few things at WalMart and am back home for a while.  I want to go to the support group meeting tonight in Hickory.  They will have a yoga instructor there and I don't see this fat tail of mine getting on the floor, but I will go and do what I can.

Since I am so close to the 50 pound mark, I decided to stick to protein, protein, protein today.

So this morning was a French Vanilla cafe protein drink
Snack - McDonald's yogurt parfait ( I was starving after aerobics and that is unusual for me)
Lunch - low carb Slim fast
Supper - shrimp stir fry with mushrooms and water chestnuts

Also pushing the water today.  Have the same plan in mind for tomorrow, too - but I also have to work tomorrow 3p-3a, so things may be a bit different.

Have a great Tuesday part one!

Good Evening Sweet Linda and OFFers!

I found out this morning that my tool does work...no, no dumping or such just a lot of gurggling and rumblings and I filled up FAST.  I also had pain in my pouch and throat.  The pouch is just showing me that it IS the boss and that it IS working.  lol

B - 1/2 of a scrambled egg; 1/2 turkey sausage patty
L - 1/2 cup homemade spaghetti sauce (lots of meat in my sauce) with a little cheddar on top
S - mixed NUT-rition nuts (Planters makes these)
D - either 1/2 cup cottage cheese or another serving of the spaghetti sauce

My oldest grandson (Chris - 9yo and in 4th grade) called and wants to join the school orchestra...soooooo, it looks like I'll be "sponsering" a future musician for a while.  His brother (Justin - 7 and in the 2nd grade) will be able to join next year.   I see another "sponsered" musician in my future.  lol  Of course, then there are two more grandsons (same daughter) to go.  Maybe I'll have a little break before the youngest (other daughter's son) is ready for this!

Hugs! Donna L (finding_me) - I just know I'm here somewhere...
