I'm a little irritated.

I know I should have called the doctor's office yesterday.  I've been having pain when I eat... yesterday the pain was so bad I felt like I shouldn't eat at all.  I kept taking antacids which helped temporarily. Today I reluctantly called the doctor's office because even though it's a little better I'm still having pain.

The nurse starts giving me the old lecture about eating too fast and do you have children? I knew she was going to tell me to start using a baby spoon.  I said wait... I know the pain of eating too fast and this isn't it.  I said I do have some pain when I'm not eating.  I told her the pain woke me up in the middle of the night the other night.  She was really short when I told her I didn't think it was from eating too fast.  I have some clue about what's going on, I'm not a total idiot.  Grrrr... and it's my own fault... I should have been more pushy about the kind of pain I was having yesterday which was really bad and NOT from eating too fast. Maybe by the time I go in next week it will be gone and then I can look really stupid.  Ugh!

It was my surgeon's office and I had originally talked to the receptionist but it was a nurse who called me back and said I'm eating too fast and my pain doesn't fit anything she can think of that could be wrong.  I'm just so disgusted.   If the pain escalates again I'll just go to the emergency room.

maybe its a stricture?? wonder if that ever crossed her mind? i would call them back and ask to speak to the dr this time if possible...just seems like this nurse isn't interested in your care after surgery!!! i would let this dr know how you were treated by her!! and YES please go to ER if this office doesn't help you NOW!

have to go to work soon so please don't wait if you get this pain again...something just doesn't sound right to me.

hugs

Thanks Judy... I was quite surprised this morning because I thought for sure they'd have me come in right away and I still blame myself to a certain degree for not being more forceful about how I feel/felt.  If need be I'll go to the emergency room and I have a feeling when I see my doctor next week he will ask why I didn't come in sooner and I'm going to tell him that "so and so" told me my problem was eating too fast.  Why wouldn't they want to find out what going on even IF I was just eating too fast.  Worst case scenario, there's nothing serious wrong. Why mess with somebody's health?

Laura,
We have to be our own self advocates. That may mean getting stern and demanding that the professionals hear what we are saying.

Your pain could be nothing or it could be a whole slew of problems. If it gets worse, you begin to run a fever, or just plain can't tolerate the pain - go to the ER.

That's what I would do now... I'll just go to the ER if the pain gets intolerable.  Hugs!

Grrrr  is right...  sometimes the professionals hear the same symptoms so often they try to fast track the solutions.  I find it very difficult when I'm not listened to.  As I get older I don't take the quick answer so fast.   Standing your ground ....  it is YOUR body you are paying THEM to take care of.

I think you are exactly right... it's just a matter of her trying to find the quickest (easiest) solution.

Don't let the pain get unbearable before you go to the emergency room!~~
